    slug hulls

    Who makes the Hornady SST? Look similar to Federals, but have a plastic base wad vs paper.

    Federals are plastic now. Have not seen any paper on any new hulls in a while

    In 12 gauge, you are correct. However, every one of their hunting hulls for every other gauge is a paper based. It has been so long since I've shot a Hornady SST slug, I cant say for sure what they are. Hornady makes their own brass, so it might not be impossible that they made their own hull too.

    The 20 ga federal's I get from BPI have a paper base wad. I have some once fired Hornady's ...plastic. I did talk to Dick at BPI yesterday, actually we talked for a while. He said Federal is changing to all plastic, but he is not sure of the time frame on that. Plus it could be 3 weeks or better just getting in any new hulls from them. And yes, according to Dick, Hornady makes their own hulls.
