    .32-20 mold

I need a bullet mold that cast a bullet with the crimp grove in the right location for the 1.305 in. length brass. Any suggestions as to which mold I need.

Accurate 31-105T is very close to original factory .32-20 lead bullets.

Lee 311-95-1R and 311-100-2R are both very good.

I ordered my mold from Arsenal molds , not sure if it is what you are looking for but would not hurt to look at the schematics .

I believe Lyman 311008 aka 3008, was originally there but not sure how many cherry changes have past. I would try that or an NOE copy.

My favorite mould for the 32-20 or 32H&R Mag is the Noe 313-89-WC-BE4 RG2. Gp

Thanks for the replys, I will check out the Accurate mold. The Lyman mold 311008 and the Ideal 3118 are both for the shorter brass.

With 1.305" case, the 0.3" nose length of Accurate 31-105T results in a 1.605" overall cartridge length, whereas factory max for .32-20 is 1.592". If this is an issue, when you order the mold ask Tom to shorten the nose length by 0.015" to .285" which will also increase the meplat diameter to about 0.2", which would be advantageous in a game bullet.

I thought .32-20 brass was supposed to be 1.315 in. Starline Brass is shorter - in the range of 1.28x in. But I know nothing about 1.305 brass. Obviously, there is a gap in my knowledge. That I'd like to fill.

    Edit.
Oops, what I thought so, wasn't.
I answered part of my question by looking at the SAAMI specs.
Starline is still shorter for some reason.

Starline is still shorter for some reason.
The 1.315" length is max. 1.305 is the trim-to length which new R-P or W-W brass would usually be. Due to the heavy crimp applied to obtain acceptable ballistic uniformity with 100-grain softpoint bullets cases fired in factory loads WILL stretch and after several reloads are likely to exceed the 1.315" maximum length.

Starline .32-20 brass is 1.280-1.285, the same as their .30 M1 carbine brass. This eliminates the need for frequent trimming and causes no issue in older .32-20 rifles or revolvers. It also enables Starline .32-20 brass to be used in the Ruger New Model Blackhawk chambered for the .30 Carbine cartridge. Many of us who favor the .30 Carbine Ruger revolver for field shooting do this. The thinner .32-20 brass gives adequate release clearance for cast bullets of larger diameter, which fit Ruger cylinder throats which have been reamed from their original .308-.309" to .311-.312" diameter using bullets suited for the .32-20, .32 H&R Magnum or .327 Federal. You can't load bullets larger than about .309-.310" using .30 Carbine brass and have them chamber.

We were getting .327 performance from the Ruger revolver 20 years before anybody ever thought of the .327 Federal and the .30 Carbine in the Ruger revolver is a top-drawer small game and varmint gun which I find more accurate to 100 yards than my WW2-GI Inland M1 carbine.

I have always liked the RCBS 32-098 SWC (I think I have that right) for .32/20. About 100 grains, has a good crimp groove. It has been fine in rifles and revolvers for me.
