It is designed to work with a proprietary granular backstop material for which I do not know the density. It sucks up the granular material leaving the lead behind, unless you get aggressive with it and then it makes a heck of a racket as lead gets sucked into the impeller.

It might work with rubber mulch, but I doubt it.

I briefly experimented with a modified shop vac to reclaim lead from dirt berms at the range.
It worked fairly well to separate leaves, grass, dust and other light material from the lead... not so good with rocks, wet dirt/mud.
I can see where it would do a good job of separating mostly intact projectiles from rubber mulch since they have vastly different densities.

I'd like to see how it works.

the cost of that this is actually probably cheap if it works. modern scrap yards with giant shredder separators cost many millions and each of the separating units that can sort and stack the different types of materials cost tens of thousands to repair not just buy.
it sure does look like an overgrown vacuum cleaner.

A shop vac is exactly what I use to separate the rubber from the lead at our club. The lead then get shoveled into buckets. Easy. Clean. Cheap.

I tried to find the "Meggitt system" for which the vacuum would be an integral part and for which the Mfg. might provide a clue to its function. I can only surmise that it is for the removal of lead dust and particulates in the air from an indoor range environment, and not for the recovery of lead from the backstop media.

My cheap shop vac always separates the lead shot that has spilled from loading. It sucks up everything but the shot leaving the shot debris free to pick up with the dust broom and dustpan.
