    Some Eastwood combo colors

My go-to from Eastwood is Mirror Red, and the two Ford colors. I also have a few other colors that are so-so so I’ve begun mixing them with my better powders to obtain the best coverage.

    350gr .458 for 45-70

Ford Light Blue and Architectural Bronze

Mirror Red with Copper Vein ... really like this one.

Ford Dark Blue with Reflective Chrome

Anyone have some favorite Eastwood color mixes?

Are you doing the “shake and bake” method on those?

Yes ... about 2 or 3 minutes in a plastic container.

I have a heavy duty, 1/2 gal sized container that I use ... I’ll drop in about 100 to 120 at a pop, about half full ... pretty heavy and after 2 minutes my arms are a tad tired. Sift them and then stand ‘em up up parchment paper.

I like that copper vein, looks good.

I used to get a wild hair and mix colors just for grins...then one day I accidently came up with a color that looked like 'Root Beer' and thought that this will be my standard color from now on. Problem was that I didn't write the mix down and I used red + black & some clear gloss...to this day I have not been able to copy that color again...'how frustrating'!

Now I use the black + white and get what I call an 'old lead' and am happy with this...I never get the 'hue' exactly the same but the basic color is there, coverage is excellent and I still get the grins.

If I start with an empty bowl and do a 50/50 mix fresh...the color will be like the darker ones but if I just 'freshen up' a bowl and add a little the 'hue's' are all over the map...hahaaa....

Eastwood semigloss clear mixed with just a pinch of green or blue is my go-to color for coating. Gives an opaque HyTek look and great coverage. Gp

Another vendor that sells powder. I use them exclusively since they are about 20 min drive.

I found Eastwood's Copper Vein to be really disappointing by itself. The rough finish was only a little better than Harbor Freight red. Then I started mixing it with some Eastwood colors that work for shake & bake and the results were very smooth. While Eastwood has some great shake and bake powders, they have some that don't work so well. All of Smoke's powders are tested so you know they will work. This post is a great help for those looking for Eastwood colors that work. Thank You.

TJ, what are ratios (Red:Copper) when mixing the two [Eastwood] powders?
I'm having a devil of a time getting the combo to stick.

Right around 50/50 ... we have a dehumidifier in the garage that may be helping.

My daughter and I have been PC'ing for a few years and we have not had the most positive experience with it. For me that means coverage is not the best and sometimes takes 2 coats. I have been using only Smokes powders and my shop is not cooled or conditioned in the summer and is heated by a diesel fired shop heater in the winter. I have found that most unmixed colors will just not stick well. But, we came up with a 1:1 mix of white and wine red that will always stick and will always work. We tried making a gray, 1:1 white and black, it seems to work equally well. Neither color does well alone. The pic blue32 posted makes me thing of our last attempt, wish I had a pic. I had large areas with no color and large areas of color, on the second coat they really did not improve. I think that the ones that I make with what appears to be bare lead are actually covered with separated clear, they feel way to slick.
