    Regarding that Rossi 92 I picked up . . .

I listened to the information I obtained on my recent thread about converting my stainless steel 44 Magnum Rossi 92. I ordered ammunition and reloading supplies. Now I need two "fixes." The rifle has a yellow plastic magazine tube follower. It also has the dreaded safety atop the rear of its breech bolt.

    1. Where do I acquire a metal magazine tube follower for 44 Magnum? What metal do I want (if more than one metal is available)? How do I install it? The magazine tube has a plug on its muzzle end that has what looks like a coin slot on its front face.

    2. The rifle has installed a tang sight. I believe there is some sort of dummy or plug that replaces the safety assembly. Where do I acquire this? How do I install it?

If either is not easily ower installed when the owner has nominal hand tools only, please let me know, that I can arrange for a gunsmith.

is the answer for you. He also has the safety sight replacement. Just to throw this out there https://www.titanreloading.com/lee-p...tyle-crimp-die this die will help if your bbl slugs out to .432 like mine did. You can use a seater/crimp to seat the boolit and the collet crimp to crimp it down. Works and allows fantastic accuracy for me.

https://stevesgunz.com/ . Got a steel follower and a lighter trigger spring from him. Dropped trigger pull from 5 1/2 pounds to 3 1/2. Oregon Trail .431 laser cast 240 grain swc's are the most accurate in my Rossi.

Given that AFAIK you've made muzzleloading rifles, making these should be a snap for you.

I made both a brass magazine follower and a safety replacement (it's removed via opening the bolt & drifting out the retaining pin) plug with hand tools in about 30mins each.

Alternatively, an original magazine follower can be purchased from one of the usual suspects:

    http://homesteadparts.com/shop/magaz...html?cPath=1_9

I made the bolt plug using a scrounge box Remington crossbolt safety button chucked in a power hand drill & holding a file against it to turn down to the needed sizes (copy the bottom of the bolt top safety after removing it)

I likewise made the brass follower from an old black powder measure, but I've also made them from an empty straight-wall pistol case of the appropriate size (.40S&W, .45ACP, etc)

FWIW, I also made a safety-replacement bolt peepsight (before Steve introduced his) using the same Remington crossbolt safety button, centrally D/T for a Skinner LoPro peepsight.

The Smith Shop in RI has parts for Rossi 92's, including SS magazine followers, safety plug, and spring kits. Their prices are reasonable and they have a $5 combined shipping fee regardless of what you buy, as opposed to the other famous shop with some serious shipping charges..

That might be the late Bob Foster's son (the addy was Bob's home, where he had a full-fledged gunsmithing service run out of his basement) ...…… Bob was one of the best gunsmiths I ever worked with, and a great guy to boot..

The groove diameter slugging out to .432" would be a non starter for me. Too many issues to overcome ( new mold and sizing bushing). I like the light weight of the Rossi but no way I could live with that.
