Hodgeon's BL-C in 30-06 bolt guns

howdy , i was also given several cans of Hodgeon's BL-C
was wondering if I could use this powder in my 30-06 bolt
guns using 150 gr or 180 gr fmj spitzer bullets
any ideas, please post, many thanks, rojo

I use BL-C(2) in .308 for plinking in my AR-10, as well as .223, so not exactly the same gun you're looking at, but it's decently pretty diverse powder.It's just as capable accuracy wise as 4895, at least in those guns. BL-C(2) is just cheaper, so that's what I plink with.

Hodgdon's website show 49-54 grains for 150 grain, and 44-48.5 for 180 grain.

Lyman's data shows 46-51 grains for 150 grain loads, but neither Lyman, Hornady, or Lee have BL-C(2) data for 180 grain loads.

My 222Rem powder for over 50yrs. I did use it for 223 when they came out, but switched to Win ball powders. Never loaded anything else with it.

you might want to work up load with magnum primers for best results blc2 is a great old powder

I run 50.0 with a 180 Hornady #3070

And

54.0 with a 150 Hornady 3031

Works in a Ruger MII

Being only slightly slower than H335, Bl-C2 is a great powder. I've shot it in matches out to 800 yards and have won. While you won't get 100% case density,you will get very good accuracy. It is HEAT sensitive and a Winter load may be too hot on a Summer day so be mindful of that.
It is my go-to powder for 5.56 55 grain loads.

If it is BLC and not BLC2 you will have to find vintage loading data for BLC.

Lyman shows data for BL-C, I use it for .222 Rem. - Accurate.

Have a copy of an old Lyman manual, think it was maybe #43 that shows data for for the original BL-C. Lists data as follows:

150gr 48 grs 2696 fps - 52 grs 2899 fps

173-180gr 44 grs 2365 fps - 48 grs 2577 fps

BL-C like its successor BL-C2 meters well but found it needed magnum primers for ignition in my Garand and 03A3, otherwise with electronic muffs on some rounds could hear the firing pin hit a split instant before the bang.
