Red face Favorite levergun and why?

I know alot of people discuss this but what is your personal favorite levergun? Not the most sold, or most used... Just your personal opinion.

Is it durable, a heirloom, good shooter, or maybe you just like the manufacturer, easy to modify, or reload for?

Mine is 1886. Its durable and sturdy in hand. Also shoots large calibers capable of taking anything I want.
I modified mine alittle to fit my needs better.

Its expensive to shoot, even if I reload, but it has sentimental value and is my favorite.

    No original part was modified...

A guess that would be my pair of 38/40's made in 1892, why, nostalgia, fun to shoot, history.

What caliber? What makes it expensive to shoot?

The plain old Winchester 94 (1894) in .30-30, I think. The '92 was a great rifle, but handicapped by the black powder pistol loads when compared to the smokeless .30-30. Apparently over 6 million shooters also like them. Recoil is easy to handle. Ammo is relatively cheap.
Rifle is durable and accurate, lightweight, usually trouble free. The Marlin 336 is a runner up, but for me it just doesn't handle like the 94.

Mine is my 303 Savage 1899 carbine. Light, handy, adequate for anything in the lower 48. Thanks Privi Partizan. I needed the brass!

I must be the odd man out as I like both the Marlin 336 because the flat top makes easier to put on a scope. And while more difficult to scope the 1894 Winchester especially with the heavier octagon barrels seem to me to point better. I have two Canadian Centennials one with the 20" barrel and the other has the 26" barrel. Both were bought years apart and not part of the set as originally offered. The 26" barreled one seems to hang in there due to the added weight. Have about 4-5 30-30's, one 444,one Win 375,and two 1894 Marlins in 357 mag and 44 mag. So one can say I like lever actions. Almost forgot, have a bubba'd 99 savage in 300 savage. Won't feed from the magazine and does not have the feed ramp on the barrel. But as a single shot is surprisingly accurate. Frank

Too hard a question. Too many to choose from

Happiness is a Warm GUN & more ammo to shoot in it.

My Experience and My Opinion, are just that, Mine.

Uberti 1873 in 44 mag, 24" oct barrel.

Prior to that gun was a Rossi 24" 1892 in 357.

I only one 1 centrefire rifle. Reasons both got the vote in their time is the great economy of pistol cartridges.

    Favorite levergun and why?

1894c. Short, handy, powerful enough for anything in my state, up to black bears, with homemade ammo.

Marlin. Each has their own characteristics. Like em all though I did recently pick up a 375 that feels so good but haven't had a chance to try her.

I have A LOT of leverguns, but the ones we shoot and hunt the most are Savage 99's in 308. The 308 is proven, shoots cast very well and is easy to find cases, bullets, and powders. MOA is achievable with a little tuning and load development. For elk hunting my wife carries a Savage 99 358 and I use a Marlin 45-70, but for most 'FUN' shooting we use 308's with modest cast bullets or 'cheap' FMJ bullets out to 350 yards or so. I like to fool with my Marlin 32 Special and a a 303 Savage 99, we have other levers in .223, 218 Bee, 357, 44 Mag, 444, 35 Rem, 300 Savage, 284, 243, 375, 348, 30-30, a 35-284 Short, an 8mm-08, and a 270-08 but the 308's get the workouts for deer, antelope, and meat(cow) elk. By round count a couple Henry 22's get the most shooting, then the 308's. Just one? - Savage 99 .308 Win.

My current favorite is a tuned 1894 Marlin. .38/.357 for cheap CF loads that I can produce quickly on the 1050. It sports a tang sight for CAS and I can easily mount a scope for load development. I have 8 lever actions, but it gets the most use. Easy to strip down and clean. Easy to work on.

I shoot the 1873 a bit faster, but it needs a 10 gallon hat to catch the brass...LOL.

My choice may change but I can't think of anything that will kick the Winchester 9422 off the #1 spot. I have a 94 my dad bought when I was 8 years old, but any more most of my "hunting" involves cans or empty shotgun shells that litter the ground where I like to shoot, and the 9422 works great for that. I had wanted one since they came out, but couldn't afford one. Something about feeding 5 kids and keeping a roof over their heads got in the way. After the kids grew up and left home I didn't want to pay the price they were going for. I bought a Henry for my son about 20 years ago that shoots good but it wasn't a Winchester. When my father in law died, my mother in law asked me if I would take his guns because she didn't want them in the house. I'd been married to his daughter for 40 years and knew he had several old Winchesters and a couple rust bucket single shot shotguns, but didn't know about the appears un-fired 9422. I've taken care of the un-fired part, and someday my son will get to compare the Winchester to his Henry.

Why oh why have have favorite? Why? 22, pistol cartridges, 30-30 class, high power and big bore. Marlin, Winchester, Savage, Browning BLR and more. It’s so much more fun matching caliber of lever rifle with the shooting task of the day.

    Hi...
My favorite is my Cimarron 1873 in .45Colt with a octagonal barrel.
Little heavy but it shoots really well and seems to want to feed any handload I feed it.

This is my favourite was my great grandfathers bought new in 1899 model 1895 with 5round box mag chambered in 30-40 it survived a house fire in the 20s and by my father professionally reblued in the 70s to save it from becoming a rusty wall hanger I’m currently using it to hunt and will still produce respectable groups at 100yards

I have a few levers, my first gun at age 5 was a Marlin 1897 carbine 22rf, it has much sentimental value but my favorite to hunt with is a Winchester 1895 in 30GOVT06. I’ve taken a truck load of deer with it and three hawgs. Not the pink hog type by the way.
