I have some lead and lyman #2 - how can I make some 1-10 and 1-15 alloy - my lyman book is requiring these alloys for some of my reloading
thanks

Hello Forest,
Lyman #2 is 90/5/5 lead/tin/antimony, which is one part tin, one part antimony, to 18 parts lead. In order to make an alloy with one part tin to fifteen parts lead, or one part tin to ten parts lead, you must start with at least one alloy that has more tin, not less, or add pure tin. Also, there is no way to remove the antimony from your Lyman #2. If the lead you say you have is pure, and you acquire some lead/tin solder, I or one of many people on the list can tell you how much to combine to make 10/1 or 15/1 lead/tin alloy.
That said, I know of no reason why you can't use Lyman #2 to load any reasonable recipe for rifle or pistol. If you'll tell us more about your plans we can better help you.
Take care, Tom
1-10 should be roughly 12 bhn.
Lyman #2 is around 15 bhn which as Tatume said will likely work in a lot of applications.
But if you want 1-10 hardness of 12 bhn, just mix equal parts pure and Lyman #2 and you’ll get the same hardness but with different alloy makeup. 2.5/2.5/95.
I’d recommend searching this site for the alloy calculator. It’s not the end all be all but it sure does help.
If you want an actual 1-10 or 1-15 alloy, you need to ditch the Lyman #2 and get something with only tin or a lot of tin with a little lead in it to add to your pure lead.

just curios - i was planning using lyman #2 where the manual calls for a little softer softer alloy - the 3-1 cut should also work -
It's not exactly precise but it's close enough for what I've done and that's 1 pound to 10 pounds for 10:1 or 1 pound to 20 pounds for 20:1
Of course the larger number is pure lead and the 1 pound amount is the tin. I weigh it out on a postal scale.

"Really?"
I didn't know there were any 'stupid questions' ... had to go to WikipediA to see for sure if I was right...hahahaaa...I was right!
"(There's) no such thing as a stupid question" is a popular phrase with a long history. It suggests that the quest for knowledge includes failure, and that just because one person may know less than others they should not be afraid to ask rather than pretend they already know. In many cases multiple people may not know, but are too afraid to ask the "stupid question"; the one who asks the question may in fact be doing a service to those around them.

Agreed OS OK. Heck some folks dont even know what they think they know!!
Hoping it was a poor attempt at humor Geezer.
The only "stupid" question is the one ya didnt ask. Hate the idea of turnin some newbie off or making a place where new folks are afraid to ask things!! Thats a place I dont wanna be.

if you need it make it just save your #2 for it's intended use and 10-1 or 15-1 for whatever you want that for
besides close to just aint the same as the real deal
