I have 3 marlin levers. One was a 30-30 with 6 groove ballard. Never got a chance to measure the lands and grooves.
Next was a microgroove(JM) and I sold that to get a new 6 groove 1895. I was kinda surprised at how shallow the grooves are.
Has anyone done a comparison to JM stamped vs new 6 groove? Slug thier bore?

AFAIK, All the modern Marlin 1895's were issued with the same Ballard rifling, with Remington using the same Marlin machinery they received when the purchased Marlin.

My first year JM guide gun has ballard rifling, but it is deep. I noticed the shallow rifling on a couple of 1895's I have zeroed for guys as of late, but they shot great. Most of my 45/70's have shallow rifling, when I checked them recently, all of my newer rifles anyway.
Typically .004 deep per side.
