    3.5” chamber reaming of the 12 ga USH

    I have an extra 12 ga USH that I bought as a backup. I’ve shot it once. Would shoot it more but it was a brand new gun (new, old stock) when I bought it, so the trigger is a little stiff. The USH I hunt with had trigger work done to it before I bought it (anyone know a gunsmith or knows how to to this, let me know!).

    Anyway, I think I want to ream the chamber to 3.5”. I can rent 3.5” magnum readers for around $50.

    Reason being is to, well, reload more 3.5” slugs that don’t require me also doing a barrel swap on my 835.

    Thoughts?

    You sure can, but there is a good chance it already is, even if it doesn't say it. You will have to measure.

    One does have to be careful with OLD S.G.s with short chambers. Made for paper shells and plastic ones can increase pressure, causing problems. Many are very thin in the barrel (plus weak steel).
    Whatever!

    True, but this isn’t the case.

    BT, if you feel you REALLY need the extra OOOMPH! then go for it! But, OHMIGOSH, you're talking 800-1000 grains of slug weight - just how big are those Texas hogs anyways?

    The USH 12ga barrel utilizes a heavy contour 10ga blank.

    Leon,

    The name escapes me but somebody on this forum had a 3.5 inch 12ga reamer made that had a short rifle style throat. Maybe you can search and find out who it was.

    I was kinda thinking along the same lines . Running a chamber out in a smoothbore and doing it in a rifled barrel aren’t necissarily done the same .

    PLEASE read 12 ga from hell thread ,,

    Nef Ultra has bull barrel that takes any pressure you can load cases to;

    just use a 3.5" reamer, and changing throat to be like in a rifle has not

    changed the accuracy in ones we have done, With plastic cases

    you can get 700 gr 2100 AND RMC BRASS CASES 2500,

    with our slow powder loads,,,Ed
