Many have mocked this man but I have gained much from his writings and beliefs, A great man in my view, Regards Stephen.
“If violent crime is to be curbed, it is only the intended victim who can do it. The felon does not fear the police, and he fears neither judge nor jury. Therefore what he must be taught to fear is his victim.”
-- Jeff Cooper
Col Cooper is a man who "walked the walk". I have great respect (different than "idolize") for him and his writings. I take into account the context of where he is coming from and whlie I disagree with some of what he says most of it rings true......"ride hard and shoot straight...."
Larry Gibson
“Deficient observation is merely a form of ignorance and responsible for the many morbid notions and foolish ideas prevailing.”
― Nikola Tesla
From 'Cooper's Corner':
"Never unload your 1911 while standing over a water bed"
In school: We learn lessons, and are given tests.
In life: We are given tests, and learn lessons.
OK People. Enough of this idle chit-chat.
This ain't your Grandma's sewing circle.
EVERYONE!
Back to your oars. The Captain wants to waterski.
He said "Remember a pistol is for fighting your way to a rifle."
Ole Jack
"'Necesity' is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of Tyrants: it is the creed of slaves."
William Pitt, 1783
"America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we faulter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves." Abraham Lincoln.
He was no nonsense kinda guy. Roughneck Marine/LEO from my understanding that went on to form what is now known as Gunsite. Some of his musings I find very truthful but not PC in today’s age. Perhaps he was ahead of his time in that regard. I know he had no love lost for places like LA along with the typical 80-90’s era gang banging. I’ve read some. Not all I agree with but certainly well grounded tactical preparedness.
He was a great man for sure. He never said a word that he did not fervently believe..........
Mental preparedness is the key to just about any endeavor. We like to watch the Alone series on History Channel. Over the season, I'm amazed how many people who had good shelters, adequate food, and seemed otherwise OK who tapped out because they started missing the family or significant other. When they start looking at photos they brought, they're done for.
Being mentally prepared is one of the important keys to surviving a deadly confrontation. Not being prepared will most likely result in hesitation at the wrong time and you loose the confrontation. Helped me survive 30 years of working the streets in law enforcement. Jeff Cooper knew what he was taking about when referring to being mentally prepared before the crap hits the fan.
situational awareness of what is going on around you as innocent as it may be has helped saved lives. Say you are walking through a large parking lot like home depot. Suddenly a driver starts backing up I go stop, stop, stop and he stops. He gets out of the vehicle and asks what's wrong. Told him my wife is less than 5' high and you couldn't see her from your truck. This really happened. Course she was on a cell phone at the time and not paying attention to her surroundings. Frank
great man spoke the truth even if people dont agree.
I liked the man.
Plus he helped us get the 10mm.
From time to time I read a column of his called Cooper’s Corner as I recall.
It lead me to buy a 45 ACP, not a 1911 but rather a S&W 4506. There were a lot of things I liked about that gun save for a pesky little catch as you pulled the trigger in SA. It was the magazine safety. My gunsmith would not touch that. I traded that handgun for my first 44Mag revolver. Later his assistant told me HE could have taken care of that as he had the same pistol and had removed his.
I miss that 45 autoloader but I am most glad I did get into 44 Maggie’s!
