    Leaking rcbs pro-melt

My brother gave me a RCBS Pro-melt. He said it was leaking and that he might have broken the tip of the nozzle shot off rod. I looked at the Pro-melt instruction manual and it looks like the tip is square. Is this correct? I can order another rod, but if I don't need it, it would be a waste of money. Any one have any ideas how to stop the leak. I thought I would ask before I screwed anything up.

Take it apart and clean it with a soft-ish wire brush.

    Don't get violent with it.
It'll just have some little crud flake under the needle or in the nozzle.

Something that might work, and I have to do fairly often is get it going,
wear a big leather welding glove and/or hold a bent out paper clip
or stiff wire with pliers, and poke it up & down,
wiggle it around in the bottom of the nozzle as the lead flows out.

That usually works until some hard beastie builds up in there where it seals.
My well worn old pro-melt is from the 90's and I've only had to take it apart once to clean a clog.

I have to clean the nozzle on my Lyman furnace about every 5-7 years. I try to keep my alloy as clean as possible but it always happens that I get just enough crud build up inside the nozzle to make it drip. When the problem gets too bad I know it is cleaning time. This is not a reason to trade off the furnace. It is just a cleaning chore that comes with the territory when owning and using a furnace and I use mine a lot. Go ahead and clean out your furnace and enjoy using it for more years than not, also save the money you would have to spend to replace this tool.

Mine started to leak 30 years old. I sent it to RCBS and had them recondition it I think it cost about 100.00 dollars.

Thanks everyone for their reply's. I got a free nozzle shut off from RCBS and cleaned everything up. Works like a champ. Can't beat FREE.
