[ATTACHMENT=CONFIG]264474[/ATTACH] picture of my wood fired lead melter. Ran three pots in it today for a total of 244 ingots from the Cast Boolits and Redneck Gold Molds. It's 90+ degrees here with over 80% humidity. Sure is a lot different than melting on those 40 degree days back in the fall.
Hot work, but good job. Makes a cold drink while surveying the results of your effort that much more satisfying.
Kylongrifle32, nice job. I quit doing it down here in the summer just for that reason. Too hot, and Too Humid. I'll pile up all the lead and do the smelting in the winter when I can enjoy doing it.
Though I'd give it a go out in the driveway. Three big shady maple trees to block the sun and I at least had a slight breeze today. So much shade u didn't get a go picture of my set up.
In the spring during nice weather I spend my week ends chasing turkeys or fishing. My fall weekends are spent chasing deer and turkeys again. Would like to do most of my smelting in the winter but my hands cramp to much if it's below 50 degrees out so it looks like I will be confined to doing a lot of smelting this summer. Going to rig up so lighting and try a night time run.
More of that good hard rifle lead for me to buy...

Good work. I only cast in the summer when I have to.
Motivation, when it is hot and humid, is all that is required, and a resistance to quitting. Once past the inertia to "do nothing", moving forward isn't too bad. Your result speaks for itself. Stay hydrated.

Good job! At least you had some shade with a breeze. I save up my lead and smelt in the winter after hunting season closes. I have melted lead in the summer but I try to avoid it. Me and a buddy melted about 400# of shot last August. His idea, not mine.
Like making firewood in July. Rather do that when it's -10.

Here in Ar.in the summer we just set it out in the sun and let it melt.
The 3 people a man must be able to trust completely are his gunsmith his doctor & his preacher ..,his gunsmith for his short term health ,his doctor for long term health ,and his preacher incase one of the others mess up.
Here is AZ we are in the 110-113 range now. VERY low humidity.
So I can just lay Pb on the dash of my car and melt it!!!!!! HA.....ha!
I do all my remelting and casting NOT in June-Sept. I have an air conditioned shop but the remelting and casting is done in front if the shop with an evap cooler blowing on me. Still too uncomfortable.
All shooting is inside in A/C'd indoor ranges.

Cooked a pot of range scrap this weekend ... 90 here as well. I was very afraid of dripping sweat in the pot ... yikes
Sweat is of no concern. You have to dump a good amount of water in the pot to be a hazard. A bead of sweat will evaporate the instant it hits the lead.
I'm more worried about when adding more to the pot splashing molten lead on my soaked and sweaty skin. Sure sticks and burns way worse when the skins all soft and hydrated. Splash a dab on you when it 40 degrees and it seemed you can pick it off and go on with out getting so much as a blister but not when your all sweaty. Get that deep steam burn effect that smarts for awhile.
In the summertime the problems come when you go to swat the skeeters with a ladle of molten lead in your hand.
