I decided to try casting bullets to use in sabots for the first time, I’ve been shooting Thompson Center Shockwaves for years. I know a lot of folks use T/C Cheapshots with success so I looked for a mold similar to that. I bought a mold from Accurate and was going to send it to get it hollow pointed but haven’t yet. Then I found an NOE hollow point mold and bought one, so that’s what I’m going to try first. It’s a .452, 230 grain mold, it came with pins to cast it flat pointed or in 2 different hollow point cavity sizes. My plan is to cast in pure lead.
I’ve got a few questions, if any of you would like to weigh in, I’d appreciate it.
Does anyone cast a similar bullet for use in a sabot?
Pure lead or an alloy?
Do you think the large or small hp would be better for deer?
Anyone know if the Cheapshot is actually pure lead?
I’ll upload a photo of the mold if I can figure out how.
