A 9.3x57 Lee cast trimmer adapter.

    I reform a large number of 30/06, 270, and 25/06 brass into 9.3x57.

    Cases get annealed first.
I use a Lee case trimmer shell holder and lock stud in a drill press to cut the neck of this brass to ~57.5 mm by turning the brass in a drill press and using a hacksaw with a hardwood pillar on the drill press blade for the initial cut.
The brass is then run through a Hornaday® 9.3x57 size die

I built a collar for the Lee 7x57 case trim stud that is 0.280 Inside diameter and 0.366" O.D.
That centers the cutter in the formed case
The cutter and stud are mounted in a drill press and the final trim is done

This is the first attempt, it works extremely well
the next one will be made out of brass and have just a bit more polish.

Always a challenge to find a tool specific to 9.3x57.

Reminds me of when I asked my boss why he always gave me the toughest and most challenging jobs?
His reply "Whenever I want to see the easiest and quickest way to do something difficult I give it to the laziest man on my crew..."
Sort of flattering in a way.

I would like to see a 9.3x57 sticky (cast bullet) in the favorite cartridge reloading section.
In fact a sticky thread for each obsolete or popular caliber would make searches easier.
Ie a 30-30 sticky thread would be nice, also 222, and 223

where there is a will, there is a way. i'll be the third 9.3x57 fan to say good job!!!!

i use my '06 cases to make 270 win. although they are separate from my dad's and my oldest son's '06 cases. they like to shoot them in their rem m760.

i have an 98 mauser(sporterized) in 8x57 and a husqvarna m46 in 9.3x57. i just take a 8x57 and run it into my 9.3x57 sizing die. its a little short, .020" i think, but it will save time on the trimming!!!!!!!!!(i hate trimming cases!!!!!)

9.3x57 (lower left, 100 yards) with 280gr rnhp gc with 39.0gr of imr4895

Your Husky has a long throat too, eh? I like this idea and recognize that bullet sticking far out the case!

The bushing for a larger diameter is a good idea.

As long as you are satisfied with the length, the Lee designed trimmer with a drill to power it, is one of the least objectionable ways I have found to trim brass.

I have a Husky made in 1928 (had the serial number checked) and long throat is an understatement. And the lands stand .005 to .006. Throat measures .370. The action is actually a FN action as Huskqvarna bought them from FN. Though in later years Husky made their own. So it seems there were no really standard dimensions for the 9.3x57 way back when. I've forgotten the chamber dimensions of mine. I did have to thin the necks to just about the absolute minimum to get cast bullets to work. I size the bullets to .372 and I think I seat them out some amount. It shoots lights out but a fella has to keep cast bullet and jacketed bullet cases segregated.

I make my own from scratch, I find or turn a shaft of the proper diameter for the case.

Next, drill a hole in one end for a de-capping pin, super glue that in then measuring over that, turn the over all length down to the desired trim length.

Next, either drill and tap the other end for the Lee cutter and super glue in a short machine screw and then cut the head off or drill a blind hole and insert and super glue a piece of piano wire in the other end if you are using the Lyman cutter.

Now that Lyman has come out with their version of the Lee cutter and length gage, you are not dependent on Lee and their case holders.

The Lyman case holder for trimming uses standard shellholders.

And I think the Lyman cutter is sharper out of the factory along with being larger in diameter--makes trimming the boomers much easier.

I've made a fair number for obsolete cases and they all work well. Considerably faster than ordering a custom from Lee. And Lee won't make one if it's not a standard case head size they already make.
