    This will ship with the barrel removed from the stock and wrapped separately, just to make a smaller package.

    Twist rate?
    When you care enough to send the very best, send an ounce of lead.

    Don't know. But I am under the impression these were round ball guns.

    Lyman website says it is 1-60". I've never actually checked it.

    Rusty - These are made in two versions - the traditional round ball model with a 1:60 twist and a Great Plains Hunter made with a 1:32 twist. You should be able to put a patch / jag down the barrel and tell what the twist is.

    A nice looking rifle. Do you know if it is a production rifle or a kit made rifle? Also, can you give the serial number?

    The reason I ask for the serial number is that there was a re-call on some of the Lyman Great Plains rifles and the Lyman Trade Rifles.
    This link will take you to the recall site that shows the serial number range of the rifles that were recalled.

    I think this one is way before the recall issue. SN is 451045. Also don't know if it was originally a kit, if so it was well done. I know you can tell the TC kits by the K prefix on the SN but don't know about Lyman.

    Usually the factory made guns had a very nice blueing on the barrel. So if the barrel is not nicely blued, it is likely a kit gun. Look down the bore, if there is one complete twist, it is a fast twist barrel. If there is about a half twist for the length of the barrel, slow twist. Slow twist is an excellent round ball barrel. Fast twist will shoot anything but conicals better.

    Factory finish, slow twist, barrel feels smooth when running a patch in it, has some leading near the muzzle.

    Rifle = round ball = 1-60 twist
    Hunter = conical or round ball = 1-48 twist
    Right side of barrel is marked by Lyman as 'Rifle' or 'Hunter', so there is no need to measure the twist unless the marking has been removed. Factory made has nice 'bluing', kits in general were browned. BUT a quality bluing job might make that kit look like 'factory built'.

    Yep, love 'em. My comment was a bump without actually using the word bump. But heck, bump it up one more time. Gonna give it a week here then it gets parted out. Thanks for the interest guys.

    No problem. Check used prices on GB. I have no problem with parting it out and I'm quite certain the parts will bring more than my asking price. Just thought I would list it here first. No one wants it at my asking price (or very close) that's fine with me.
