    WANTED: Winchester Large Pistol Primers...DATED!

Looking for Winchester primers and boxes from 1976. This would be the white box with red W. This should be the transition date from oval to flat primers. Thus, I am looking for both with a stamp code starting with, but limited to, the letter "L".

Could you post a picture of the box you're looking for? I have several different brands of old primers, it would help if I better knew what to look for.

Those sure look to be the flat primers. On the top, is that 5 Feb 1977?
Date code looks to be August 1976

M should be 1977 and A should be January.

I defer to your experience, but they look flat on top with a rounded edge to me. I don’t have any newer Winchester primers to compare them to. Yes, they were purchased on 5 Feb of 77.

Not quite sure if you’re collecting information or looking for primers and boxes, but let me know if I can be of assistance.

It looks like Winchester may have transitioned from oval primers to flat primers sometime during mid to late 1976. Just trying to cross reference dates of primer boxes with this theory.

I’ll take a better picture of a primer in profile, do you have pictures of an oval primer?

Thanks Shag but those are older. If you can see a ink stamp code, I might can give an approx date. The Yellow boxed primers were from about 1959 to 1970 from the information I can find.

Not sure which ones you have but NN could be ...the first "N" 1938, 1958 or 1978. The second "N" should be December. If it's the Yellow pack, 1958 could be too early. White pack with red W should be in line with 1978. 1978 Winchester primers should be flat by then.....me thinks!

Alstep, a while back a few guys got together and was able to translate the ink stamp codes. Some give dates to include days and some just year and month.
