    Krag Bolt disassembly

    can someone school me on the way to disassemble the Bolt on an 1898 Krag?

    I have a new Wolfe spring that I would like to install.

    I'm sure there is a smarter method to this, but I managed just now to strip mine. You have to pull back on the cocking piece and rotate until the sear is next to the root of the bolt handle. It will pull straight out the back. Then you tilt the firing pin out of its dolls head connector to release the mainspring. As always, keep the pointy spring loaded thing facing away from you

    Greg where did you get your Wolfe springs? I have 5 krags and would like to get some extra springs.

    I had ordered it direct from Wolfe, as I didn't see one listed at Brownells.

    thing was, I could install it on the striker, but could not reassemble the bolt.

    so, until I find the time to email Wolfe I put the old spring back in. need to make time this Tuesday and find a solution

    I was getting a lot of pierced primers with the 28lb spring. Not to mention the rifle was hard to cock. There is some differences in the length of the barrel on the boltsleeve (where the spring seats) between rifle models that can cause an assembly problem. Early models have a longer barrel on the boltsleeve and it's just barely possible to get the Wolff spring on them.
