    Wyoming antelope unit 17 ?

Me and a couple buddies drew antelope tags for unit 17. We’ve never been there but understand public access is somewhat limited.
Does anybody have any experience in this unit?

Get in touch with the chamber of commerce in that area and ask for names and phone numbers of ranchers who will let you hunt.
Some will let you hunt for a fee, some won't charge you anything.
Expect to pay. Not many anymore will give you the free ride.

Ive had good luck in the past with chamber of commerce in the western country. Those ladies tend to know everyone locally and can rattle off phone numbers seemingly without looking them up.

There’s quite a bit of public land but I think difficult to get to. We’re not afraid to walk and want to hunt as apposed to driving up and shooting one.

Also contact Wyo Game and Fish to see if they have maps of the Unit and the get the BLM Bureau of Land Management (not the socialist group) map for the area, it will show public and private lands in the area. If you or one of your hunting party is an Elk check with a lodge in that Unit. The members may help too. If you have doe tags it will be easier to get permission to hunt private land too.

A BLM map will have the sections of public land marked. There are two sections in each township that are state land and huntable if there is public access.

Some unsolicited advice: Even though that area is a little less favorable for antelope, do not shoot the first one you see. Be picky. They are all over the place and you will have a lot of opportunity to shoot one.

After doing all those things one of you should subscribe to OnX. Single state subscriptions are $30. https://youtu.be/GxyBKvBZgu8
https://www.onxmaps.com/states/wyomi...maps?type=chip It will show you all the land boundaries, land owner names. public land, accesses, Topo maps ect.

The App features selecting hunter management areas, Elk, Antelope, & Mule Deer Hunt Area boundaries as well. This allows you go go directly to unit 17 & it will outline the boundaries, public & private land, ownership with name & address off tax maps ect.

"Increase success as you layer BLM, forest service, private property and more over aerial imagery, and topographic base maps, for the most accurate map on mobile device and desktop.

We do have onx and BLM’s maps. I suspect we will spend the first couple days driving and scouting. I’m not looking for a B&C although it would be ok. I just want a good representative of the species.

That’s exactly what I did back in 2000’. I called three ranchers and were offered all three places to hunt at no charge. The property owner where I shot mine told me the next year if I come back it would cost all of $50 to hunt his property. I haven’t Pronghorn hunted since. It was like shooting fish in a barrel. Way to easy of a hunt. They were everywhere like mosquitoes here in WI.

I hope you did your research/homework before you applied. Wyoming has 3 million acres of land locked public land, Montana has 2 million acres of land locked public land. Basically, the BLM and/or state lands are surrounded and enclosed by private land.

Hunting regulations with units like that will state - very limited public access.

I picked the wrong unit when I applied. I got lucky and was given permission from three land owners. My buddy and I got there the day before season started and drove to two of the properties and picked the one with the most Pronghorn running around. I was done in less then 2 minutes on opening morning. It’s mounted head with nice horns and sharp white tips is hanging on my wall. It was one of the cheapest and easiest hunts I’ve ever been on. It as $195=fro the license at the time and $40 to stay in a campground with our camper. My buddy shot one an hour and half later after passing over a dozen or so. Try and get permission from a few land owners and get there a couple days head of time to drive out and scout each place. All we did was drive our truck down a couple of trails seeing Pronghorn everywhere and backed out of the area. We were there at sunrise the next day.

There's a big Hunter management area in 17, look into that, it probably requires a permission slip which you either apply for or print off the G&F site. OnX is a very valuable tool when navigating areas that you can hunt.
