Ladle full of hot alloy, mould laid on it's side, ladle spout placed firmly into the bevel cone formed by sprue hole, both rotated up to vertical position.

If I have "finning" or vent lines filled with alloy, then I
know the bullet is filled out completely!
A very minor thing when pouring lead.
Thanks, that's what I've been doing, and didn't know it!
You can accomplish the same thing placing the mould under the spout of your bottom pour pot, push the little drip out of the way if one is starting to hang there, then mate the sprue plate to the nozzle and go for it...you get some additional pressure from the weight of the Pb in the pot. As I end the filling, I drop the mould slightly before the valve is shut off and with some practice, you can have a nice little sprue puddle on the plate. If you open the flow adjustment, I think it will approximate a ladle. This works very well with the old Ideal Keith style HP moulds.
If your finning? I suggest you clean those mating holes & pins that align the mould and clean the mould faces, insure that the mould swivels on the handles & the handles are properly fit to the slot in the mould.

I've found a way to limit finning is to cool the pot down or don't pressure pour. ( I no longer ladle pour I feel I can get good results with a pot: pressure pouring, increasing heat or adding more tin )
Higher tin content and harder alloy promote finning
GONRA doesn't cast NEARLY as much as ya'll, but my olde Potter Bottom Pour Pot / Lyman Ideal Mould experience matches OS OK's comments exactly.
