    Which Powder: 4895, Tac, WC846? M1A & Rem 1903a3

I have 4895 and Tac on hand. I was thinking about getting at least 8lb of wc846 really only because it’s available.

I need to load for an M1A and also my grandfathers Rem 1903a3 30-06.

Would it be wise to get the Wc846? I’m surprised I read that a Tac has 30-06 load data. I plan to shoot 150-180gr in fmj and casted/powder coated.

    Thanks

    Hi,
I’m a big fan of H4895 as you can load it down 60%, and it works consistently well in my M1, 03A3, and variety of other rifles. I have no experience with Tac or WC846.

For the M1A, stick with 4064 and 4895 for the gas system.

I like TAC, clean burning, easy to measure and burning rate similar to 4895. My experiences with 846 is that it leaves a residue in the barrel that 'hardens' and is difficult to clean. 846 seems to be much more temperature sensitive than 4895 or TAC. I shoot from 20* to 90* and notice significant pressure climb when temperatures go over 80* with many ball powders. TAC is much less sensitive to temperatures than many others.

The 4895 will be usable in both cast [Would be and is my preferred powder for 165 - 200+ gr cast in both cartridges] and jacketed in both the 7.62 for the M1A and the 30-06 for the M1903A3.

WC846 is a milsurp powder and would be usable for 147 - 150 gr jacketed bullets in both cartridge/rifles.

    No experience with TAC.
