    Veteran U.S. Marshal

Veteran U.S. Marshal dies at Fayette Home

The U.S. Marshals Service is remembering Deputy Marshal James Habib, who died Thursday from natural causes at his Fayetteville home. Habib, 45, had been with the U.S. Marshals Service for 17 years. He was previously assigned to the Superior Court in Washington, D.C., and Kentucky’s western district. He recently was the deputy in charge of court operations for the Marshals Service’s Beckley office and served as the tactical training officer for West Virginia’s southern district. Habib also was a veteran of the U.S. Army and father of two children. “His outgoing personality and his passion for sharing his knowledge of operational tactics with fellow law enforcement officers will be greatly missed. With his passing, West Virginia has lost a native son who exemplified the United States Marshals Service’s motto of ‘Justice, Integrity, and Service,’” said Marshal Michael Baylous. U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W. Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., shared their condolences on social media. “Absolutely heartbreaking to hear the news about Deputy U.S. Marshal James Habib,” Capito tweeted. “Jimmy worked diligently for the Marshal Service for years, keeping West Virginians safe. My heart goes out to Jimmy’s family, particularly his two children.”
