    Universal shellholder ram

Lyman and CH4D used to have a universal shell holder ram, to replace the old style shell holder ram.
I don't see it in the Lyman catalog.
I think CH4D still has it.
Does anyone know if it has the cut out for the priming arm cut into the?????
I'm looking for one without the cut out.

CH4D still offers one, from the looks of the picture it does have the cutout.
I need to order one for a Pacific press.

Wonder if they fit the Bair C frame ,mine has the little set screw to hold the shell holder .Maybe I could machine a groove around it and fit the spring clip like on the RCBS rockchucker.

I think RCBS used to have one for swaging - is that what you are looking for? I think it had a screw in head? that you could interchange, from swaging to shell holder?

I distinctly recall having a press w/a set screw in the ram. Checked both of the original Pacific rams and nada, no set screw. That tells me that it had to be an RCBS Junior which I left with family in FL. Now did it have a cutout, that I don't recall.

Not a set screw - My Bair's have that. I'm thinking the whole head screws into the top of the ram, thus interchangeable heads. One head essentially solid for swaging pressure and one with the normal cutout for a shell holder.

Wayne, are you thinking of the Herter's shellholders?

Lyman, Texan and a few others used the set screw to secure the shellholder. RCBS used a set screw on the A series presses. And they made a solid shellholder for them, though finding one today will be difficult.

There's nothing wrong with the set screw, other than it's a significant inconvenience.

I've got a Pacific Super C that uses the setscrew in the ram to hold the "universal" shellholder in. I may be the oddball of the bunch, but I liked using it. The shellholder stays put in the orientation I want it so there is no hunting for the opening when cycling a few hundred cases through the die.

I believe the Bair is the same as the Pacific, seems like they bought out Pacific, then Hornady bought them.

I did, 20 years ago. You can too.

The new circlip spring groove needed to be narrow so I used a hacksaw instead of a conventional lathe cutter. Cut where the set screw goes and stick the turned in end in the screw hole, works fine.

Have a Pacific Super Mag that someone cut one of the rams.
    Not sure why.
If I could find a ram without the cut for the primer are, it would be much easier to do.
Hoping to repair it and bring it back to normal.
