MP molds are so beautiful it is a shame to use them. But use them like crazy. I'm sure you will be happy with it.

That mold maker produces works of art! I own a few, one is a .477 for my .480 Ruger.

But I have to say, there are many good mold makers right here in the US as well!

I am really a fan of the RCBS molds for a mass produced tool so to speak. I also have acquired molds made by our custom makers and really cherish them.

Lyman/Ideal generally does well. H&G and Modern Mold and the vaunted Cramer molds are sweetie pies!

Go ahead, throw the stones! ... I like Lee as well especially for the cost.

I want to try some of Eric’s work (Hollow Pointing Service) when I get rich and famous.

I will say this: Between this forum and LASC, the art and science of bullet casting and shooting has been advanced “light years”!

Casters if they apply themselves, have it so much better than our fore casters had it!

    Congrats.

I only buy brass molds today. I have every Al mold Lee makes/made and just like the performance. Especially the hollow point versions! Amazing works of art and functionality. Never liked that stupid little pin you had to put up the wazoo of the old 1 and 2 cav molds.

Happy Casting. Just remember to age the brass mold correctly. Makes a BIG difference in performance.

Could you tell us more about that process Jim?

I take a new brass mold and cycle it up and down FOUR TIMES to FULL casting temp and then back to room temp B4 ever casting anything in it. That oxidized the new shiny brass to a beautiful deep golden color and forms a protective layer that minimizes/prevents Pb from sticking to the brass while casting.

I will never buy another Fe or Al mold again. Brass is the only way to go. Rugged, accurate, and perrrrdy to look at!

I have that same 402-160 mold and it's my favorite .40 S&W cast bullet.

S&W M&P40 Compact, KKM barrel. OAL 1.145" which works with the longer throat of this barrel, not sure about OEM BBL. Alloy= 20:1, 5.8gr CFE Pistol, WSP primers AVG=1018fps. Shot into Clear Ballistics gel and 2 layers of cloth. Don't have a picture but 9.5gr AA#7 was over 1100fps and they barely held together. Penetration is a bit marginal FWIW. Have fun!

Noticed on their website, no molds for 375 and metric rifle calibers. But they do make round nose with no metplat pistol calibers
