I use a 300 grain cast in my .338 Spectre AR for sub-sonic loads.

Don't forget the original .338, the 33 wcf in the model 1886 Winchester.

I think this is a wonderful cartridge for cast and wouldn't pass up a good deal if one presented itself. The specs look good and people rave about how it shoots cast. I only got into shooting cast in rifles 8 years ago, can and seldom load bullets, but have never shot them through my 3, 308s, and dad's sporterized Springfield 03-A3. I just love shooting cast, and the 338 would be a good addition to my hoard, um, collection.

In my Ruger m-77 338 the RCBS 200gr and the Lyman 250gr shoot very well with 30.0 and 27.0 of 5744. No filler needed. 1.5" at 100 yd. Pleasant to shoot, will take any deer fairly hit.

I’ve used the Lee .338” 220gr RNGC for several years.
I use it in the.338MarlinExpress. In fact my MX (blue/walnut) is a dedicated cast bullet gun. The MXLR gets Hornady 200gr FTX over a healthy charge of LVR -enough for 2,600fps.

My two loads for the Lee 220 are 24.0gr of #2400 for about 1,700fps. Sized to .339” with SPG lube.
My hunting load I’ve killed several deer with is 40.0gr of RL15 for 1,950fps. I drill these with a 3/64” bit 3/8” deep to initiate expansion. Penetration is complete. I’ve only recovered a single gascheck. Accuracy on either is ~2” at 100yds. Terminal effect isn’t much different than jacketed.

I’ve got a RanchDog 200gr TL-FNGC but it casts undersized and shoots horrible. I’ve powder coated several hundred but haven’t gotten around to playing with them. Will initially try #2400, again.
