This 1911 is calling my name... Must resist!

Was on another forum and someone posted links to reasonably priced Hi-Powers on Gunbroker. Clicked on the links out of curiosity and one click led to another and was looking at Beretta Cougars in .40 S&W, then that led to a NIB Remington 1911 R1 Limited in .40 S&W for $549.

That's a heck of a price for pretty nicely appointed 1911.

I do not own a 1911. I don't need one. Especially a full-size that only holds 8 rounds. Purely a range toy. But if I was going to get one, then why not one in a caliber I like and already load and cast for, and have tons of boolits, powder, and brass for, and one that is supposedly a pretty solid offering in the 1911 world. And only $549!

I'm really trying to resist the temptation. But this looks like a deal that might not come around again.

The R1 seems to get good reviews, but I know nothing about 1911s. I carried one in the Navy and it was a great shooter and thought I should add one to my stable some day.

But I also want a new Uberti SASS Pro, which is also about the same price and would just be a range toy. I don't usually buy range toys. Every gun I buy has a specific purpose and spending $600+ after shipping, tax and transfer is a lot of money for a toy.

But it's just so dang appealing!

Despite Remington/Freedom group thing and quality taking brontosaurus sized dump, the R1's seem to have made it past the goalie without taking a hit. Several of them are in regular use with our USPSA single-stack shooters. I would not turn one down for the right price, they are pretty nice as far as I can tell.

There are several guys at the range with them, they have had no complaints.

I'm not a. 1911 expert buti have 3 R1s and I can't find a thing wrong with them I'd probably have to buy that one myself!

With a 40 ,, you can make a 357 sig and a 10mm with just a barrel and spring change.[maybe a mag too]

Warning 1911's tend to multiply. I was around your age when i got my 1st one. I have 9 now.

How could you go wrong with any caliber in a 1911? Yes some might think because you only have 8 rounds it is old and not effective. Look how many times it did as needed and the military still has it in use in special forces, must be some reason they still feel adequate using it. If it were me I would want one in 45acp, 9mm, 38 super.

If you have .45acp & .38 Super, you don't need intermediate cartridges. If you WANT them, well, then I guess that's another story!

I have them in 45acp and in 38super , had one in 9mm , I am not caliber specific as I like the platform and do not find the round count to be a disadvantage .

I will admit I own glocks and hi-powers and wheelguns , all have there attraction and or purpose .

I see they have them still for that price on gunbroker , have seen a few 1911 models and brands for decent prices , but at the same time it seems some pistols are higher priced then a month ago .

You will enjoy it , and as you say you already load for that caliber , so why not , remember 1911 pistols are to be loaded from magazine not single loaded .

I own SAA's and 1911's and do not feel undergunned with either.

I have a XD 40 and I feel totally protected with that cal 40 S&W. It is a dandy round and I cast for it all the time. Been playing with powdercoating recently. Seems to be very acceptable!

I can't stand the exaggerated beaver tails.
I prefer the original beaver tail of the WWII variety.

You don't have to big even when I was at 150lbs and I am 5'11 a standard beaver tail would leave me bleeding.
So would a Walther PPK the S&W made Walther and extended beaver tail 1911s do not do that to me .

Only down side to the R1 is it doesn't fit mil spec parts.

IE: the gun it's self is not made mil spec from remington so standard mil spec parts do not drop in like a typical 1911.

It's whats kept me from buying a R1.

R1 needs R1 internals.

That said i too like the platform and have two 1911's myself.
