In Swappin and Sellin I have seen threads deleted because they are an "open ended sale". What is meant by an "open ended sale"?

Just curious.

The S&S section is not a discussion area

There are 5 types of posts allowed in the S&S section:

Selling a item – Subject line will begin with “WTS:”
Auctioning a item – Subject line will begin with “AUCTION:”
Wanting to buy a item – Subject line will begin with “WTB:”
Wanting to trade a item – Subject line will begin with “WTT:”
Vendor Sponsor ads – No restriction on title – Can only be items agreed upon when you sign up as a VS.

Allowed items:

Casting tools, equipment, & accessories.
Reloading tools, equipment, & accessories.
Firearms, Firearm Parts, related firearm tools, equipment & accessories. (No commercial sales of firearms allowed)
Ammunition (including factory loaded), components, and accessories.
Machines, machine tools, equipment & accessories as long as it is related to casting, reloading, and gun smithing.
Books related to the above subjects.

Any items posted for sale which is not in the categories above will be deleted.


Rules:

30/30 – You must be a member for 30 days and have a minimum of 30 meaningful on topic posts to start a thread in S&S. Posts in the Swap & Sell and the PIT do not count towards the minimum 30 posts.

5 ads MAX – A maximum of 5 ads may be listed and/or open per month. This includes ads from previous month. You may only start a max of 5 ads per month. A month is the first day to last day of any given month on the calendar.

10 items MAX – A maximum of 10 items per ad. If more then 10 members can purchase items from one ad then you are selling more then 10 items in that ad.

Cross Posting – No cross posting allowed. If the items are not for sale (WTS) or trade (WTT) here exclusively then do not list them here.
Reporting a Cross – If you as a member find the exact same item listed on another forum or classified site please click the REPORT button. In your report put a LINK to the other listing.

Add On's -
No adding additional items to your FS ad after it has been established. Note: Does not apply to VS.

WTB Ads -
Want to Buy (WTB) ads shall be for no more than sixty (60) days. If the item hasn't been found in that period, the ad shall be closed, and a new ad may be created for another sixty (60) days. (The problem of discussion in these threads has created the necessity for this rule.)

Definitions:

Casual Sales - Selling off stuff that you have around the house but will never use again defines casual sales. For sales ads which do not meet this definition see Vendor Sponsor below.

Vendor Sponsor (VS) - Members who offer large amounts of personally manufactured items for sale on a continual basis or offer a service on a recurring basis must become a VS. Ad limits or item limits do not apply to a VS. If you would like to become a VS please click -> CONTACT US
VS are restricted to listing their ads in the S&S section or their VS sections. Ads listed in discussion areas are prohibited. Sales are limited to items agreed upon when you sign up as a VS

"I’ll take it" - There is no "I’ll take it" rule. It is at the sellers discretion whom they sell to.
DO NOT report a post because you didn't win the item. This will result in a infraction being issued to you.

Feeler Threads - Feeler threads are NOT allowed. Feeler threads are nothing more than WTS threads in disguise. Posting of a "feeler thread" will result in an infraction being issued.

General Information:

Payment options:
The price (if not an auction) and acceptable methods of payment are determined by the seller and must be listed in the ad if applicable. Cast Boolits recommends that seller(s)/buyer(s) use a method that offers the most recourse in the event the deal does not turn out as expected. Cast Boolits also recommends that the seller do not ship the item(s) until payment is received.

What to do when finished with a WTS/WTB/WTT/AUCTION post:
When you are finished with your post please post once more in the ad the word “CLOSED” and then close the post. If you have any problems use the report function to report the ad after you have posted CLOSED and it will be handled by the staff.
You do not need to edit the original post, just put “CLOSED” and close the post.

**** Caveat Emptor ****
Buyers beware! The S&S section is provided for members to buy and sell their unneeded items. It is the joint responsibility of the buyer(s) & seller(s) to ensure the details of the transactions are satisfactory to both parties before completing the transaction.

Please do not make more work for the staff. These rules are basic stuff. Good business manners as well as respect of others is expected. Anyone can use the REPORT feature to report a post - remember to include a note explaining why you think there is in violation

Infractions will be issued when rules are broken. Once 3 infractions are issued that members access to the S&S area will be restricted.



We desire a level and honest playing field above all and if you take advantage of the open and fair posting, it will eventually be noticed.

Please try to remember this forum does not exist merely to facilitate your evading Ebay fees.

It was nice of you to post the rules, but I still do not know what an “open ended sale” is or why it would be prohibited.


I do understand what is ment by an “open ended sales question”.

I am not the OP, the question has me wondering what the answer might be, so as to avoid making the mistake myself.

My take.... If you have a quantity of an item and offer it in an undefined quantity to an undefined number if buyers , it is open ended. You can only offer for sale a defined number of items, maximum 10 lots, and the number of possible buyers can be 10 at the maximum for any posted sale. It's in the rules, the one that starts with " 10 ". Oh, and there is a maximum of 5 active for sale posts per month.
