    8x57 boolits?

i have a 98 mauser(sporteried) in 8x57. the mauser is a 1944 production and it was sporterized with a bishop stock and a redfield peep sight, what year, i do not know. the bishop stock is cracked behind the trigger and the barrel channel is bent to the right. instead of fixing it, the mauser will be placed in a richards micro fit stock, it will be a wolverine left hand shooter/right hand action and grade a fancy in american black walnut. since the original trigger is garbage, i've put on a dayton traister trigger. i also slugged the barrel and it comes out .3235".

i'm no benchrest shooter, but i like to shoot. i hunt, but i'll take the mauser out once in awhile. 4895 and 2400 are my friends, including dacron. what i'd like "to have" is one mould to do everything.

    what i "need"
    1. targets include steel, paper, cans......
    2. whitetail and black bear under 100 yards
    3. gas check
    4. 180gr and up
    5. fn and rn
    6. 10 lead and 1ish tin (yes, i do like my boolits soft)
    7. i can do hp with my foster trimmer hp set.

can you help me find my mould?

    444ttd,

I have many 8mm Mausers and all like my Lyman #323471, 215 grain RN boolit cast out of WW, a dash of tin and dropped into a bucket of cold water from the mold. I use 25 grains of IMR4198 for a great hunting load. I size .323" and gas check the boolit. I need to set the rear sights to "400" or "500" for POA/POI at 100 yards.

One that I would recommend. Lee's 215gr Karabiner mold which is a long flatpoint. Midsouth Shooter's Supply carries the mold as one of their specialty molds. Its a lot easier to find than the out of production Lyman #323471 (https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.c...roduction-mold)

Accurate Molds 32-205B. Except for my Schuetzen rifles it has become the only 8mm bullet I use.

I am a little late to the table here, but have a some experience with the 8mm. Actually two different rifles a Yugo M-48, and a Turkish.
Even though this is a little lighter bullet than you ask for, dont over look the Lee 324-175. Both my rifles shoot this bullet very well with around 11-12 of Unique. Also 12.5 of Green dot shoots really well, in the Yugo.
I am not a hunter, so a lighter bullet is more desirable to me, as it saves me valuable lead.

The NOE 326-220, was my recent purchase, thinking it would be better for long ranges. I think its an excellent design, and has a really long bearing surface, similar to the 314-299 from NOE, that shoots well in several 30 cal. rifles.
I think this bullet will shoot well, but since I have not had this mold long, I am still testing. So far my results were better with
Reloader 7 and 2400. Both show promise, at around 17 grs with 2400 and 19 grs with the RL-7.

    Good luck in your quest.
