This place is reliable. Only problem I had was the scale guy being creative with the weight. When I asked for a written ticket he made it right. Anytime you deal with a scrap yard, ask the price before loading. Saves discord later.

Got home and found that I had gone to a different place. When he assured me that I was calling the right place he was fibbing...

That guy probably had a prior job at a wrecked car salvage yard.
If you call and ask if they have a certain part for a Chevy--- they always say something like, "Yeah, I'm looking at two of them right now".

You get out there to pick it up, then it's, "No, we only have Ford and Dodge stuff here".

I too am envious, scrappers and recyclers cannot sell lead as it is a Hazardous Material here in Wisconsin and Illinois. Great score though.

Hazardous material? Do the workers wear Haz-Mat gear? I haven't tried buying from any scrap yards here.

Nope, just means it is listed as a hazardous material and is controlled. They can only sell to other scrap/recycle dealers that have a Haz-mat license. I have contacted dealers from Chicago to Rockford to Madison to Green Bay. They won't even talk to you as a private buyer. Try it.

Sometimes I wonder if the goofy legislators who write these regulations about lead being so terrible even know that is is a naturally occurring substance that is mined from the ground. To be sure, it should not be used in potable water lines-just ask the people in Flint, Mi- but the zero lead mentality must be contagious.

It's all about lead paint and lead additives in gasoline. There is a town in Southwestern Wisconsin called "New Diggings". Which is one of the oldest settlements in Wisconsin, very interesting history, sprang up because of the lead mine.

Metal scrap yard. That was a couple years ago. Perhaps things have changed? Lots of lead water service pipe still in the ground here. But our water supply is naturally soft and non acidic so it poses little risk.

The size of the ingots from the angle iron and cast iron pan ingots makes me think they'll only fit back into your processing pot. Are they storage ingots for future processing into other alloys?

They will fit into the magma master caster 40 pound or the littleton shot maker.that is a 6” skillet

Mostly Lead sheet with some lead pipe and shielding.

Now the fun (smelting) starts tomorrow.

Gotta ask, having just realized you're in OKC, which scrap yard? I need more lead, too.

Al’s or Standard either one usually has lead. They both sell to the public.
Where in OKC? I am in Mustang.

Actually in Del City, though when we've got a north wind I can almost spit into OKC. Standard Iron on Reno near Eastern/MLK? The last time I went there they did serious damage to my truck... They did pay for the parts, but I didn't realize how much damage they'd done when I made my list. Al's is just around the corner! I need to go see them tomorrow! Thanks! I've started a project reviving a couple of .32 Stevens rimfire rifles, and I'll need some soft lead to cast boolits for them. Thanks!
