    Sights for my 94 marlin

Got bored , decided to make a rear sight for my 94 marlin .
I'm going to call this version a proto type .
I used brass simply because it's easy to work with , And I don't have a have a dovetail cutter for my mill . I used a end mill to rough out the slot , then finished them in my shaper .
It took a whole lot of time to get thing fitted together properly .
When it's finished it'll have hidden screws to lock in wind age and elevation .
And the blocky looking part on the right is going to be thinned down and shaped a bit , And it'll have a screw in apature
I think I might do a winged sight protector to .

Eventually I want to do one in steel and brass accents but I don't want to spend any cash on a dovetail cutter at the moment.
And the little tiny single point cutter I use in the shaper is probably to delicate to use .

It'll be a day or two before I can finish it , I need to get some 4-40 grub screws but need a better excuse to go to the hardware store.

Like to see it on your rifle when you're done. Should be neat.

I'm looking for an excuse to go to the hardware store ... I do need a couple drill bits .

I already know i am not going to be happy with how it's going to look
It'll be to much brass for my tastes .
I'm more interested in how it will work , other then it's going to be a bit of a pain to adjust . I think I'll be very happy with that .

There are a few things I still haven't worked out yet , like an adjustment scale . I'll worry about that once it's mounted and I get a zero and some witness marks to work from .

And I'm not 100% sure about my apature center height
    I think I have it low enough @ .345 to get a 100 yd zero .
But I've thought I was right about a lot of other things to

I don't make drawings or always think things threw , I just start making what ever is on my mind And see how it works out .
Usually wrong so I start with easy to work with materials .

I'd take the measurement from the original sight, should be plenty close to start, adjust to suit your taste. Just a thought.

Oh sure measuring the original sight height is always a good idea and helpful .
But when your adding in a bit more lenght to your sight radius and morally against complicated mathematics ... a guess is what you end up with

Really though , I'm just winging it as I go along . Getting somewhat close is my only goal . If need be I can make the proper changes to version 2.0

Speaking of thinking things threw , I plan for wind age screws isn't gonna work with a sight protector. Won't be able to get to get to it .
    Duh!
So , proto type #2 coming shortly.

Some more progess , I'm at the point where I have something to mount on the rifle and try .
I'll pretty it up a bit if I'm happy with how it works .
Maybe see if I can find some brass blacking to , I for sure don't like all the yellow .

I finished the sight up , doesn't seem to be any interest so I don't feel the need to post any pics.

No drama , just didn't look like anyone was interested .

The dovetails were a whole lot of work , easy to do on the shaper in theory . Not so easy to get nice perfectly fitting dovetails .
If you zoom in you can see the wind age and elevation scales .
First time using @100 yards , the two low was me
I had to take a tiny bit more off the bottom of the sight to get it low enough for a 100yd zero

I wanted to get some brass black , but my funds are about zero
So I dunked the thing in vinager over night to try and patina it a bit .
Not so happy with how it turned out , but it's better then a shiny yellow lump of brass on a 114 year old rifle

I did not check out this post before till now and like how you came up with the idea and see how it came about for how you made it work and what the end of it turn out to be and also how the gun shoots with it .Thank you for posting. Looking forward to see if you have anything else you will do with this .

I kind of like it that way, almost like you 'aged' it to match the receiver. Nice work!
