    MGM barrels

I had bought a pistol barrel from MGM some time ago in 475 Linebaugh chamber.
Recently I thought it would be nice to have a rifle barrel length barrel for my Encore as well but there is no chamber listing for them anymore. I shot an e-mail to MGM and Andy from MGM told me that they quit chambering that and have no plans to chamber in that cal anytime soon. I wonder what is up? Did they come to the conclusion that the frame was not suitable or what?

Call MGM and ask them why. I never had a problem talking to them on the phone. You’re going to get a better answer from them than someone’s guess on here. Not being snide, but they’re available to talk when you call.

If you find out, I would like to know the answer. I am counting on MGM to provide my next barrel!

they will only do .458 and have no plans to do 475 anytime in the future

a few years ago, i bought a 23" MGM barrel in 500 Linebaugh and MGM does not listed it anymore. it shoots great, i have done a .75" at 100 yards(5 shots/bench), but usually it will go 1" - 1 1/2" at 100 yards.

I've got one of those myself
I used it black bear hunting last year smashed a black bear with it
used 25-1 alloy and blew a big hole in the bear, but no heart to speak of
need to be using a harder alloy from now on at those speeds 1800 fps.
that is why I wanted a companion in 475
yes they do very good work

They probably can't get a barrel blank in the caliber to make the barrels from.

my 500L still has to get blood on it, even tho i carried it for deer for several years. i have bought 500pcs+/- of Montana Bullet Works 450gr lfn gc (.512"/20-22BHN?) at a garage sale. i use HS-6 and it goes 1235fps, plenty fast enuff for close cover deer.

There’s not really enough wall to contain 50k psi. Add to that the zipper effect of the scope mount holes and it’s too much of a risk.

Years ago, I had MGM build me a 16.5" barrel in 50 Alaskan for an Encore receiver. I have shot thousands of 475 gr. WFN bullets through it in excess of 1800 fps. I have NEVER experienced any symptoms of excess pressure or incipient failure. The ONLY problem that I have is that the wooden (laminated) forend usually shears off because of the recoil. It is a BEAST, especially considering that I shoot it in a pistol configuration.

I also shoot the 500 Linebaugh no issues at all
can't figure it as to why they don't chamber anymore
there are a lot of chambers they do chamber that aren't exactly popular and probably only do a few now and again
oh well it is what it is
