Savage Model 25 22 Hornet Magazine

Finally got to shoot my Savage Model 25 in 22 Hornet, I just got it sighted in at 25 yds and an empty case would not extract and I did not have a cleaning rod so I had to quit shooting it.
The magazine does not allow very long ogive bullets to be loaded into it.
There is a block about 1/2” long that I am thinking about milling down to allow for bullets with a longer ogive.
Has anybody done this and did it work?

Upon disassembly I found that the “block” is hollow and I would need to make another follower!
Not worth all of the aggravation!

I don't have any experience with the Model 25, but I like and load and shoot for the Hornet. It seems like a lot of guys are having a lot of problems with them in various ways. How accurate is it?

Although it sounds as if deltaenterprizes has stopped this project, something for others to keep in mind:

Before doing anything to the magazine, I would make sure the chamber will accept the longer rounds. It does no good for the magazine to hold cartridges that won't chamber.

I had a stuck case and didn’t have a cleaning rod to get it out!
Only got to shoot a few rounds at 25 yards. I plan to go back soon and bring a rod with me!

I just picked up a Brno in 22 Hornet with the spoon handle bolt it's a bit neglected but is is very accurate and well worth the time to clean it up.

I found similar trouble with my model 25 in .22 Hornet
Some bullet shapes feed better than others. The ones that don't feed well are the lighter/shorter ones. I got better results by seating the bullets out as far as the magazine would allow. That seemed to improve feeding from the magazine.
The model 25 is very very accurate, and I have never had a case stick or not extract.
When it comes to the feeding issue I think the designers at Savage didn't get it right. Close maybe, but not right.

As far as the extraction failure - look at the forward edge of the case rim for rounding.

I am thinking about filling the void in the magazine with JB Weld and then removing some material to increase inside dimension.
