I was going through my powder pile and found a mostly full pound of the above powder. I have no idea why I bought it - and it must have been years ago. Looking at the Lyman 49 I found only one load of 9MAK that uses it? I have not gone through all my load books, but thought I'd ask if anyone else is using it and for what? I load 32S&W, 32 Long, now 9mmLuger, 9MAK, 38 Special, 357 Mag, 45 S&W, 45ACP, 500S&W.

The ADI Powders website lists it as similar to WST, 700x and Green Dot. I recall using charge weights similar to bullseye. Start lower and work to desired velocity, its a good powder

It works in all those handgun cartridges. It also is fairly easy to light and works in big rifle rounds for low power loads, never more than 30% case capacity though.

they use to mail them out for free, but haven't checked in years for one. I have had very good luck with various Accurate powders.

I use it in a 2 inch .357 with a 180gr rd stlye boolit. Very little muzzle flash.

AA#2 is a good powder. It meters very well. I use it in my 38 special wadcutter load.

probably my most used handgun powder. I use it in 380s 9s 40s 45acps 38s 44spec 45 colt. Basicaly pretty close to 231 in burning rate. Very clean powder that gives great accuracy. Id bet 3/4s of the trophys I got competitive shooting were with aa2 or its surplus identical twin pr200.

The problem with AA 2 is that, depending on who made it when, it can be anywhere from Bullseye to WW-231 in burning rate. I experimented with it in 38 specials during the late 80’s/early 90’s but found that every time I got a new bottle, I’d have to rework my loads. I went back to WW-231, even though it cost a bit more, for consistency’s sake.
However, I’d use it up in 38 Spl using 231 data. 3.1 grains of AA 2 under an H&G 50 wad cutter was a good load for 25 yard PPC work.

ya it can vary because it isn't all aa2. Accurate arms started as a surplus powder dealer. they just packaged surplus in fancy jugs and sold it. When the surplus dried up they contracted commercial powder makers to make something at the burning rate they had at the time. Since then other batches of surplus like pr200 and the one jeff bartlet has now BR-2 have been found. Yup there slightly different. But ive used about all of them and never found them so different my loads wouldn't work safely. that said I don't push handgun loads to the max anyway. easy way to get around it is to order a bunch. I just ordered 6 5lb jugs from bartlette. that will last me a good long time. if I have to adjust my loads a smidge it might cost me a 1/2 a lb of powder. No big deal. Most of the time when he says its a aa2 equivalent he errors on the slow side so if anything your ammo will have less pressure not more. never heard of anyone blowing up a gun using his recommendations.

I like it for target .38 Specials with a 125 grain Lee flat nose sized to .358. According to the chronograph at the range I'm getting close to 1000 FPS out of my Ruger NMB.

There was AA#2, and then some time between 1991 and 1996 there was AA#2 Improved. Don't know if that coincided with the end of surplus and beginning of contract produced powder or not. I remember the cans being clearly indicated on the label which was which. The load data AA provided changed with the change in naming.
I used AA#2 Imp for .32 S&W, .32 H&R Mag, .38 Special and .45 Colt. It's a very fast powder so I'd say its uses are limited to light target and plinking loads. You use so little of it per shot it's very cheap to shoot. I got close to 1,200 rounds per pound in the caliber I loaded the most of it for.
I used it some in my .45s in CAS for what I'd guess was a 750 fps load at most.
I'm a little leery of statements like "It's like Red Dot/Bullseye/231/etc/etc/etc," and I hope most of the rest of the people around here are too. Really no powders are directly interchangable in every application. That said, I'd say AA#2 Imp is closest to 700X in terms of burn rate and energy per weight. However, AA#2 Imp is finer, denser and meters much better.
For what it is, I like it fine.

I just got some surplus br2 which is (I think) the same as the pr200 I had before which if it isn't aa2 sure was at one time. This time I was smart and bought 6 kegs of it so it will last a few years. Wish I could afford more. To me anyone of the three are great powders. clean burning and accurate and cheap. I use more of it in handguns then all the other powders combined.

I inherited 2 pounds of AA#2 a couple of years ago when an old friend passed away. They are unopened and the price tag says $27.95- so its not very old. I've decided to try some out to reserve my supply of Bullseye. I want to load some light recoil 210 gr cast loads for my .41 mag. Blackhawk. Has anyone used this powder for this application?

Quickload is not real accurate for pressures in straight wall but is decently close for velocities. You asked for "light recoil". I am guessing that a typical load in this category would run 700 - 800 fps. Note that the QL input for barrel length is muzzle to breech and I used 7.5".

P Flados- forgive my ignorance concerning Quickload and deciphering the info provided- but does it read 3.5 grains to 5.25 grains for velocities of 588 FPS to 822 FPS? Thank you for your reply, I have data for .44 Special/220 gr that I thought would extrapolate as long as I started fairly low.

well ive been shooting the br2 lately and the chronograph about proved that its the same as pr200 and aa2.
