I've been watching an auction for a Lee 230 gr 45 hollow point mold.

It just sold for $81. Totally crazy! MP still has comparable molds...much higher quality of course, for not much more money. Used to be you could get a NOE mold for not much more than what was paid for the Lee.

I guess someone REALLY wanted that old Lee mold.

More than likely a new comer that only knows about lyman rcbs moulds.

The reason we have auctions is because they are so successful at getting people to go slap happy,
get caught up in a bidding war, and pay more than something would otherwise sell for.

People often pay more than a new one would cost,
or what they would themselves pay for something if they would stop and think.

Often, you'll see a item get bid up-- as if it is the last one on earth---
then they'll say we have 'this many more' at that price.

I had one sell 8-10 years ago for $75. Folks go nuts over them for some reason, though then foreign bidders were allowed.

Remember that for an auction price to go stupid high, you need at least two bidders wanting the item.

I have used evilbay once since they started making you use paypal to pay for everything. Shortly after that I bought a 400 Ford engine for a rebuildable core for my truck, since I was picking it up in person I paid cash.

Watched a couple LBT molds and an RCBS priming tool go for way more than new cost recently. I guess they are worth what someone is willing to pay.

I bid that and the 44 hp mold he had up to $25, then I just grinned and watched the kids bid it up!

Hmm, I have a few NIB and used Lee's that I got when I started out, but never used because I learned here about Accurate and MP molds. Maybe it's time to recoup my costs.

The Lee single cavity hollow point I had was a 45 swc , it was a accurate bullet in the 45 colt blackhawk . But I would not pay that for one , when I can buy a MP or a NOE mold with more cavities and the hollow point option.

But doesn't gun stuff usually sell for a higher price at auction? Unless you are the one selling.

just bought a lee mold from lee ....a 6 banger $58 ish plus tax & shipping. ....then again they may be like freezers....they can't be bought anywhere at any price.
