    Cabelas optics

Does anyone know who is the OEM for Cabelas Covenant scopes? Are they re-branded, generic "Made in China/NC Star" products?

Hoping this is not off-topic here.

The Cabela’s brand rifle scopes I bought a couple years back were from china, and of disappointing quality. The Bass Pro takeover hasn’t improved any of Cabela’s merchandise that I’ve noticed. I’ve quit buying from Cabela’s/Bass Pro.

Edit: think mine were Pine Ridges, on closeout. I’m not familiar with the “Covenant” line you ask about.

The rifle scope market is so competitive, Pentax dropped out some years ago. Higher price gets you increased optical quality and mechanical durability. If your rifle has significant recoil, spend some $$. If it kicks less than a 30-06, a moderate priced scope should be tough enough to last, but the image will be mediocre by today's standards.
John Barsness became well-known as a gun writer because of his book comparing scopes. He has since written his personal best luck has been with "the B's". That means Burris and Bushnell. Oh, he does his durability testing with a 416 Remington. European scopes with huge objective lenses still die early.
