I loaded and shot 100 rounds with the 311316 without issue, I just prefer non-GC molds because I'm cheap. It did feed without issue in MY gun however... If you're not sure, you can make up a couple of dummy rounds to test different OAL's, that's what I did. I can't find them or I'd give you my OAL... it was probably 8 or 9 years ago, so finding those dummy rounds is unlikely at this point.

I have no experience with feeding an M1 Carbine with anything other than cast or FMJ round nose. But apparently at least some flat nosed bullets are tolerated.

I've shot a lot of 311316s through numerous M1 carbines over the years. I've batted about 50% on them as to reliable feeding. The ones that didn't feed had a narrow feed ramp with a sharp shoulder right where the bullet comes out of the magazine. That's where the bullets would catch. On the M1 Carbines I could modify (many I shot were Army issue) I simply widened the feed ramp at the front of the magazine removing the sharp corner. I also polished the entire feed ramp. It's easily done with a Dremel tool....just don't get carried away removing the metal. After the modification of the feed ramp the several m1 Carbines I've modified have all fed the 311316 bullets and other bullets (such as 110 Speer Varmiter HPs) reliably.

Why not use the plain base Lyman #311410 130 grain RN? The Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook lists loads for this fine boolit.

He says it is based on the #311410 but it looks too long and pointy to work in the Carbine. I called GT to ask if it loaded okay to Carbine mag length but he said he didn't know.

Ben, are you inferring that the 0.308 diameter is too small or too big?
Or what?
I, too shot 311316 hard cast bullets from a couple carbines. A friend's carbine shot them well also.
And the bullets were sized to 0.308", overall length 1.560"
my load with this bullet was the most accurate load for my carbines.

Besides the 0.308" sized 311316, I had no problems with
the 0.308" Hornady 110 gr RNSP and the Sierra 0.308" 110 gr HP
Killed a couple deer with the 110 Hornady RNSP. No problems. Accurate

Here's another RN-FP bullet that would probably work in the Carbine. It might be nice to have a FP for hunting small game.

Price is a little on the steep side but I have used a few other offerings from MBW and they do cast up some nice stuff. Still, jacketed bullets like the various 110gr SP, JHP or 100gr half jacket are less expensive.

I use the 311410 in my carbines all the time. I used to have an M2 and even used it in that. It ran fine as long as I didn't overheat the barrel. But then any cast bullet would have been a problem under those circumstances. No. it isn't too long and feeds very well in all of my carbines. In fact I've had more than 20 carbines over the years and it has fed well in all of them. These days I PC it and use it in both the carbines AND the 300 BLK.

If a 311316 is all you have, it's pretty easy to take a round nose top punch and bump a small radius on the flat nose. I've done this successfully on the 311008 and got good feeding.
All my .30 Carbine stuff has been sized at .310" and has given acceptable accuracy for a M1 Carbine. Lyman at one time recommended .311". I tried that. Don't go there./beagle

I've found they won't most often. Besides my own M1 Carbines we had 25 M1/M2 Carbines in the arms vault at my SF Company. I shot them all and found not a one would chamber rounds loaded with .310 bullets. About half wouldn't fully chamber with bullets sized .310. I learned to size my cast bullets .309 for my own M1 carbines and those chambered 100% in all the M1/M2 Carbines. Probably exceptions out there but I size .309 anyway.
