a beginner's question

i swage wadcutters and powder coat them. no issues but i have a question about lubing. If i run one of these through a sizer /luber (they do not have love grooves), is the amount of lube that is deposited on the boolit worth the time? do you think it makes any difference or is lube only useful if it sits in the lube groove?

love grooves is a typo- lube grooves

So you have a plain WC that you powder coat ? No point any sizing or more lube. I shoot mine (grooves and PCed) as cast with no issues. (38 Special S&W M52).

thanks, i was just curious about lubing in general, if, instead of Powder coating i lubed it, would it be sufficient if the wadcutter doesn't have a lube groove. As you suggest I dont plan to change what i do with these but I am always curious.

Maybe, I've heard of folks using regular lube on lee tumble lube bullets. There is a minute amount of lube in what is essentially shallow grooves. Would a thin coat of lube with no groove do it? Maybe out of a short barrel. The longer the barrel, and the higher the pressure, the greater the need for more lube of better quality.

Personally, I think you should try it to see.

A Lot of the swagged wadcutters ( Hornady speer Star alberts) were lubed with motor mica, the same that is used for neck lube when sizing. I have heard of some using molybdenum also. The factory swaged bullets all had that white coating on them. Lee alox or other tumble lubes would also work as a final lube a thin coat let dry

to size and lube you really need the groves. swagged boolits that are powder coated need nothing else. if you want to lube swagged boolits you really need to add the knurling with a canalure tool then just use a alox type tumble lube.
