    i am dummkopf

i finally got around to shooting my husky m46 in 9.3x57 with the 2-7x leopold. i was using the 280gr fn gc (bull shop) and imr4895. the middle target was for sighting it in. the bottom left target is around 1 1/4 - 1 3/8" (outside edge - outside edge) at 100 yards(5 shots/benched). now all i need is dummkopf to write the charge of powder in!!! the only saving grace is the powder charge is minimal, 37 - 38gr of imr4895.

i think i am getting old. i used to able to know what powder charge goes into what cartridge. now i have to look it up. you know if you go to kitchen to fill up your coffee cup and go to table to sit down. well not me, i have to get back up and bring the refilled coffee cup to the table. dummkopf is usually my nice word to describe myself. i won't tell you the bad word(s) to describe myself.

Nice rifle. Not a bad thing to have to check data, going off of memory is a bad practice I fall into more often than I should.

Yeah, I know. I regularly call myself "dummy" because at 78 I have no memory left. If I don't write it down right then or do it right then, it is ancient history in 2 minutes or less. Whoever called it the "Golden Years" was a liar. my .02 anyway, james

I just went to the dollar general and picked up a binder, paper, and dividers. Just getting back into this after five years. I didn't write some of my loads down. Luckily I did on some. Now everything will be written down. I don't need more senior moments as I am just gonna turn 60.

I'm but (but?) 72, but regardless of memory function/dysfunction , my lack of "organization" exceeds all else! After I spent mucho time loading each set of five rounds in 0.1 grain increments to hopefully do a "fine-tune" ladder test at range -- to find the sweet load with ZERO IDEA what it was -- I came up with my solution. To wit, upon loading a set: small number of cases, I whip out a SHARPIE and on each case's side print the load. A very quick and easy "foolproof for me" way to know exactly how much powder is in each case. My previous "sorting" in a loading block had promise at the loading bench -- but by the time I got to range I was already aware "I should've done better" .

I’ve gone to writing the load down on a tablet( the paper kind) and leave it open on the bench until I’m finished and have put up the dies. I think it is because our brains are full of such wisdom and knowledge and, and...... what was the subject??

I may not keep track how many times a case has been reloaded, but I do write down the load info and date on a computer lable and apply it to the box. When I reload that box, I simply change the date.

i use different color sharpies to mark my case heads. i use a pen and paper when i am shooting the loads. when thats done, the load that is the most accurate goes into my book.

    plain and simple, i forgot!!!!!

Sharpies are great. Write directly on the case or color the primer, put x's across the head stamp to signify different loads in the same box.

I number my loads as posted in my logbook and write the number on the primer with an ultra fine point sharpie. This is a requirement due to previous senior moments. The good side of my senior forgetfulness is I get plenty of expertise making extra trips back and forth because I forgot what I was doing or going to do!

3x5 cards in the top of ammo box, was hooked on them a couple decades ago. Grocery list, to do's, to gets, names, #'s, thoughts, folded in half in the pocket in money clip. Wife hates them, required sortie equipment here!

You young pup! (I'll be 65 in less than two weeks. I'm storing a lot of stuff in apps on my android phone. So far, it's working well for me. The app data gets backed up on Google's servers, so when I trash the phone, the new phone gets the backed up data back, mostly. SHTF, I'm probably in big trouble, but that was going to be the case anyway, most likely.
