    375 H&H and cast boolits

Owing to the high cost of 'J' boolits a friend has asked me if there is anything suitable for the 375 H&H.

Looking through my list of moulds I found a CBE 300 gn gas checked boolit. This boolit at a chronographed 1820fps using 58gn 4350 is still a potent practice load.

I'm just getting ready to fire up the casting bench think I'll cast up some for my "ouch and ouch" maybe I'll even fire up the powder coat gun and oven. Would they be better kawasaki green or ford blue, maybe flouresent pink. Any inputs ? decisions decisions maybe I should have a committee study it and decide LOL

BAW, I've owned several British rifles and others chambered to several of thee old Express cartridges and later, cordite loaded cartridges. Every one of them did very, very well with reduced cast bullet loads. So loaded they all made great whitetail/hog/black bear rounds. I never did succeed in finding a reduced, cast load for any of my double rifles but single barrel rifles were pretty much a slam dunk.

Last rifle I did that with is a Ruger #1 in 450/400. A 410 gr. bullet is exceptional and a 270 gr. bullet for the 10.5 X 47R isn't far behind it.

Some time ago we bought a NOA 270grain FNGC that now is our go to cast to get a 375 HH cooking. So far in each 375 we have used they all shot that slug well up to 2150 fps cast of WD WW.
Last time north we PC the same cast slug with GC and took them up to 2400 with 4831 and 4350. Shot just as well.
This next time north going to try for 2600 fps in the 28 inch 1885 (jap). The Ruger has a 22 inch barrel so may not get there. The CZ may.

Think of it as large 38-55. The 375 H&H can be just as accurate.

I like the Lyman 375449 in my Safari Grade 700 Remington. 26 gr 4759 for around 1600 fps. Recoils like a .410.

I use the Lyman 375449 With 2 loads in my M70 three six bits. Over 46 gr 4895 with a dacron filler it runs 2150 fps and is my "practice" load. It certainly would be suitable for hunting though. I also push it at 1850 fps with 36 gr 5744 for a more comfortable load.

I use the 250 gr PB'd over Bullseye for a small game load at 1100 fps. A Hornady 375 RB lightly TL'd with LLA loaded over 4 gr of Bullseye (no wad or filler) runs 900 fps and is also excellent for small game/vermin.

BAW; that bullet looks like it would be excellent on game at 2000 - 2300 fps...….

I'm liking the sound of Larry's load 46 grains of 4895 & filler. I was going to start switching primers to try to get the lil bit of vertical out of my 44.4 Grain load using the same boolit. Thanks Larry... uncle mike

10 grains of red dot make nice little plinker loads. Has anyone tried any of the Accurate brand pistol powders?

I use 15 hrains of Red dot with a cotton ball wad mashed down on top of the powder. Do you guys use a filler or wad with your red dot loads? Do I need one? I hate the cotton threads spewing out of the muzzle.....
