    8x58RD from 45-90, CH4D Dies, etc.

I've had my Swede RB (1871) for a couple of years now and am just getting to it.

I've always wanted a rolling block and a low wall.

Now I just need a low wall.

Good Lord! The carbon in the bore! It is as a coal mine!

    We'll fix that.

I've got the LEE C329-205-1R mold. Cast some pure "dental" lead, pounded one into the muzzle, seems it be 0.323"

QUESTION ONE: Should I assume this is the size of rest of the bore?

QUESTION TWO: What else should I do to determine the bullet sizing die I need???? Star dies are $50 from Magma Engineering!

I've got some Starline 45-90 brass coming in.

QUESTION THREE: It is not clear to me how far down the case I should anneal this before I begin any case forming operations?

I'm good at this stuff. I just need to know how far down to anneal it. I usually anneal to 650F using Tempilaq as an indicator; from experience this works well, and is well advised in the literature for most applications.

I am only accustomed to annealing down to the shoulder junction.

    Help! Cecil Help!

You need to clean the coal mine before slugging the bore. All you’re getting now are false readings.

I got a great deal of it out. Kroil / soak 24 / Corbin bore cleaner short stroked on patched bronze brush / soak 24 /repeat.

    RERUN:

    1871 Swede Rolling Block 8x58RD

I've got the LEE C329-205-1R mold. Cast some pure "dental" lead, pounded one into the muzzle, seems it be 0.323" Pounded one in from the chamber, same diameter. Having issues making them go further.

QUESTION ONE: Should I assume this is the size of rest of the bore?

QUESTION TWO: What else should I do to determine the bullet sizing die I need???? Star dies are $52 from Magma Engineering!

---> I am considering just going with a Star 0.325" die. THOUGHTS? <---

if you arent going for super accuracy,329 cast thru a 323 wont hurt anything ,so I d be inclined to save my money and maybe get a lee 323 mould for a lot cheaper......Sizing 329 down to 323 will hurt accuracy just as much anyway, but at least you have lubed bullets...and yes 325 would be good.
