223/556 Powder close up

Notwithstanding the fact that every powder is not created equal, I was examining 3 different powders (2 of which I just picked up) and they all look very similar. I know there's variables not seen by the naked eye and burn rate is obviously different. I guess if nothing else-just a reminder to keep your container off the shelf so you don't forget what you're using! The closeups represent the order of the powders in first pic.

Interesting comparison. I learned from day one that I only have one container of powder on my bench at a time. If I have multiple containers of the same powder, I always put a piece of green frog tape on the one that I am currently drawing form and have open. In storing on my shelf, I keep them separated in rows. None of that is foolproof though, if you are distracted you can end up with big problems. A good reminder to be every vigilant!

H335 and AA2230 are pretty close in burn rate. BL-C(2) is quite a bit slower. One jug of powder on the reloading bench at a time is sound advice.

I once had to turn a quarter pound of Unique into lawn fertilizer because I found green dots in it. Painful experience.

Also just keep one jug of powder on the loading bench, just good common sense.

Mark the powder measure also on a progressive press.

You can add WW748 to that group, they all look the same.

And never try to I.D. powder , like some in an unmarked container or paper bag , just by looks alone.
That's a sketchy proposition at best .

I love it when someone posts a photo and asks what powder is this ? Dad didn't label the jug and I want to use it !

Yep, don’t matter if it’s 10 lbs.! Put on lawn! There is a site that actually characterizes every powder out there and shows it under microscope. Have it bookmarked somewhere.
