My favorite is Tom @ Accurate molds version of the Lyman 358156 as a plain base bullet . I have 2 / 4 cavity molds so I can keep up on my usage . They come out @ 161-162 grs after sized/ lubed . I size them .358 and lube with Veral Smiths LBT soft blue . Regards, Paul

This is pretty much my go to mold now except for a WC mold for my K38

I tested several different mold designs in my Rossi Trapper and found the tightest groups when firing the Lyman 358156 design. All designs were tested at full snort load levels.

When talking handguns it gets a bit dependent on the purpose. For heavy loads against varmints that could harm you (both 2 and 4 leg varieties) I have Modern-Bond molds for full wadcutters that have a longer than normal nose almost bore diameter. The 358582 mold throws 150 grain boolits for .38 Special and the 358627 mold makes 160 grain boolits for .357 Magnum, both are plain base. For field loafing I can be content with the Lyman 358477 SWC or Lee 358158 RF design. Too many molds, too little time.

If it was good enough for Skeeter, it’s good enough for me! I usually load swaged HBWCs in 38s, but if pressed I could use just the ‘156 for all but my target guns that require flush seated wadcutter. I’d kinda like to cut off the GC groove though... I use it so seldomly.

The 358-156 is my go-to magnum mold. 15.7 grains of h-110, a small pistol magnum primer, and nothing else in that power range comes close to matching its accuracy.

    Lee's single cavity 358-150 WC.

There is something visceral about sending a stabilized "ash can" down range. Now THAT has to sting a mite going through.
If it was easy, anybody could do it.

Lee 358-125/158 RF although I cast and shoot a lot of the Lee 358-148 WC's. Since I shoot more target than anything I'm going to say the 358-125 RF or 358-148 WC. Ok, I'll settle on the 358-148 WC over some Promo for target shooting.

Lyman 358477. In my early days of casting, I used a single cavity HP mold borrowed from my stepfather. Now I own a two cavity that casts perfect boolits effortlessly. Very accurate in 38 spl and 357 mag. I have shot them as cast with tumble lube, but currently size to .357 with my homemade lube formula.

Right now almost exclusively the 358429 over 14.0 2400.
    Shoots well in 3 686’s, a 3”,6” and a 8 3/8 this.
But 358156 does real well over 7.0 of unique more of a mid range load. By
If I were to find a 4 cavity Mould I might do more of these also.

MP 359-640, double crimp groove. Extremely accurate and smacks down a deer w/ ease. Only thing I don’t like so much is the weight. Don’t want to shoot a lot of them since I’m rebuilding my lead stash. Shoot a lot of MP 359-135 instead. Another extremely accurate bullet.

This is what I have and I like it. It is my only .357/.38 mold I have so I cant compare to others.

As a general rule, a SWC of any configuration is the single most accurate handgun bullet for any caliber and weight you wish. After that, you can expect a wide range of opinions of what's "best", or favorite, depending on the speaker's personal experience while shooting from a wide variety of barrels, few of which duplicates your barrel so don't expect duplicate experience with your rig.

If you want a target round with modest recoil try a light weight plain base bullet and use a fast burning powder. If you want to hunt big game use a slower powder under a heavy weight bullet for deeper penetration. If you want something that expands better use a softer alloy with a gas check design.

I just got the MiHec 358429 - outstanding boolet !
Maybe a bit "square" for a lever gun to feed well, but I have another mould for that.
Tons of this going through a Python and the Model 27 I hope to find soon ! lolClick image for larger version.

Attachment 261153Attachment 261154 I have had great performance from 2 boolits. For 38 Spl and all around 357 loads, the 358-160H from Accurate in a 3 cavity works for me. In full snort hunting rounds, I used the 180gr LBT. Both are very accurate but my Lyman 358477 is just as accurate also.

The 358156 when using a check and the 358477 without a check.
