    Andy Horvath pistolsmith

    Hi everyone.
I am looking to have a couple of Ruger New Model .357 cylinders rechambered to .40 S&W and 10mm.
Hamilton Bowen recommended Andy Horvath for the job.
Has anyone had any experience with Andy?
I am open to other suggestions also.
This is to go in my custom Ruger .41 Long Colt/.38/40 that hopefully is getting finished by John Gallagher.
I would have John do this but he has stage 4 throat and neck cancer and may not last much longer.
I hope he lasts long enough to finish my gun.
    Thanks in advance,
    Blkpwdrbuff

Andy is a stand up guy, and does excellent work as well.

I, and others I know, have used Andy Horvath. Reasonable on his services/prices.
The only downside I'm aware of is that he doesn't communicate when a job is done, gotta call.

Here is a Ruger Blackhawk Andy did for me. Top notch workmanship

I'm pretty sure he can handle a simple re-chambering job.

    rkrcpa,
What a beautiful revolver, and in my favorite caliber, .41 mag.
I have a Ruger New Model Blackhawk with the 6.5 in. barrel, I bought new in 1980.
It was the first big bore handgun I bought.
Haven't been able to shoot a deer or any other big game with it but it has killed a mess of jackrabbits in 40 yrs.
I am having a Fermin Garza front sight put on mine as I type.
And I have ONLY shot cast in it for about 39 of those years....LOL.

He cut my 6" 686(dash-4) to 5", installed a Jack weidand front sight base/dawson fiber front sight, and fitted a 7 shot cylinder.

    He did a wonderful job.

this was about 5 years ago.

If you are able to get a return email from him, let me know. According to an obituary I read yesterday he died in 2018.

    Well,
I guess we will find out Monday.
I'll give him a call and see what is happening.

I don’t think you’ll ever get a return email from him, he doesn’t use a computer! As for him passing away two years ago, his name pops up on the S&W Forum often, and I don’t recall seeing any such news. BTW, I’ll try to attach a picture of Project 616, the Model 66 ND he converted to 327 FM for me about 6-7 years ago.
Obviously it’s the stainless one, the blued one is a Model 16-3 copy assembled for me by another gunsmith, David Sams.

PS Just checked and people on S&W forum were in contact with him in late 2019, so the report of a 2018 death must be in error. Praise be!

Yes he may still around I guess. I went back and checked the obituary that I read and I just did not read the whole obituary. Andy Horvath did indeed die but the Andy that I read about was a WW II veteran and lived in Oregon, Ohio and not LeGrange, Ohio. Serves me right not reading the whole story. james

Logical error, TN SM, Andy Horvath isn’t a common name, even in OH. I’d guess our Andy would have been at least 10-15 years too young to serve in WW II.

    he said yes
