12 ga. to 45 AR Build

I thought I would do a play by play on installing a 19 1/2" barrel liner inside a 31 1/2" shotgun barrel and chambered in 45 Auto Rim.

I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves, but if there are any questions, just ask!

    The finished product!

The shotgun barrel will remain full length at 31 1/2", while the barrel liner was finished and crowned at 19 1/2".

I'm thinking my next barrel liner will be in 327 Federal, but the more I look at a .17-38 or .17-357, I'm just not sure. Decisions, decisions, decisions.

But then again, the way so many guys talk about the 25-20 or 32-20.......just too many choices!

I like that a lot! What is the report of firing it like? Also, what did you use to bond the barrel and bushings together? Where did you get the .451”(?) liner?
AND I believe your scope will never, ever slip from the Auto Rim recoil......

Accuracy tests have to wait till it dries out and I can get to my range.

Noise level is comparable to a suppressed 300 Blackout.

I make my own barrel liners.

Bushings are permanently attached to the barrel liner and then permanently attached inside the shotgun barrel.

Not all trade secrets are revealed!

Neat build, very good machine work but why not trim the sg bbl back to match the liner? Not like you need the bbl length for iron sights. Would be a lot handier. Curious how it would sound with the .452 bullet going through the oversized 12 ga bbl.

    Thank you Baltimoreed!

Me personally, I just like long barrels. Yes, it would be a little bit handier with a shorter barrel, but I am going to leave it full length until I get a chance to test it's accuracy, then if accuracy is now what I expect, I'll start cutting it back 2" at a time, checking accuracy after each cut and crown.

Interesting experiment. Keep us informed. I usually like long bbled rifles but short bbled sgs and revolvers. I’ve got a 30 inch 1896 Krag and a 30 inch 1873 Winchester musket made in 1891 that are fun to shoot. It’s neat to shoot military guns that are that old.

Without the scope, what is the weight?
Not only fantastic work; but Lots of GREAT PICS! Thanks for sharing. You were one of my "inspirators" when I built my 44-40 Topper stub!

With a little extractor work it would do well with 45ACP. I did an H&R to 45 ACP a couple years back and it worked great. For those looking for liners try T.J.'s, they have liners from 17 cal. to 58 cal. TJsliners1992@gmail.com . I have been using their liners for over 20 years.

Cannot argue the fact that you are a craftsman - your work reflects that. Just in case you are unaware you might give some thought as to how the quoted text bucks the spirit of this forum.
