H4895 works well with cast and jacketed bullets over a wide range of speeds. Search on "Hodgdon reduced rifle loads" for a PDF on light loads. Excellent loading data are available here:

For jacketed bullets in the '06 hunting loads IMR 4350, IMR 4895 for FMJ's in the '06 -308/7.62 nato. 30-30 WW 748, 7.62x54r cast IMR 4759, 45/70 cast 5744, and yes Still have some Unique,2400,and IMR 4227. Used to be a member of the powder of the month club. That got old real quick. Actually gave away about 30 lbs of powders I tried and found lacking. At some point in time I do want to try some of the reloader powders in the 6.5 Swedish mauser. So much for only having just a few powders on hand. Frank

I just replied to the H335 question here. Take a look at my response, the Hodgdon load data web site is your friend. Play with it. It will give you your answer.

I would have to vote for IMR 4895. I've used up lots of 8 lb jugs of surplus powder that was from when they were pulling down bullets for government demilling. The stuff worked great in .30 M1 Garand ammo, .308 and 30-30.

As time goes on, 3031 continues to impress me, and 4895 continues to be mediocre.

I've never seen a 300 whetherby mag, but I have used 3031 in 300 win mag with good results. 308 and 30-06, 3031 is fantastic. 3031 doesn't even need an introduction for the 30 WCF.

lets see I still have on hand, 32 pound of 4759 and about 28 pound of 4756. All I cast and shoot is Boolits. I think I got enough to last a while. I will shoot a little 4198 once in a while. my 3030 and 4570 seem to like these powders best.
