    1911 holster

Now that I got the grips for my Rock Island 1911 .45, I'm thinking about a holster. I probably won't use it as a carry gun but it'd be good to have one at the range. The gun has an ambi safety, and from what I read that can be a problem because holsters tend to flip the safety down. I'd like a leather holster with a top strap.
    Any ideas?

If it is an easy to use leather IWB holster. A blocking leather snap type is nice. If it is comfortable. I carried mine open top for 20 plus years. never a concern. I trust that grip safety.

I carry right handed. The grip safety is a good point.

Check out simply rugged. He makes some nice stuff and makes a system where you can use a waist holster and get a shoulder adapter that can be used with the waist holster. Makes things kinda handy for different uses.

I have 2 Mernickle holsters & another on order and I'm completely satisfied with them. Their prices are reasonable.

My Kimbers needed a trip to a gunsmith because of their easily moved thumb safeties. The body shield of my IWB holster would flip the safety off every time, as would a strap. My personal favorite holster style is a Yaqui slide with a tension screw to adjust the holster's grip on the 1911.
When I'm going to carry my commander-size Kinmber, and it's going to involve driving, I'll pick a cross draw holster which isn't a problem with a seat belt.

Galco makes a good inexpensive version of what you're looking for. If you're willing to spend a little more, I really love the "Sky High" holster from High Noon Holsters for my Browning Hi Power. They also make it for 1911s.

I thought it out a little more and realized I don't need a top strap. I won't carry it except at the range. Not a good idea to leave guns on the bench when you go set up targets. With that in mind, I bought a Fobus-type holster.

I have a Desantis with the top strap. I like it when I took my 45 in the woods walking with my dog. Now I take my 10mm.
