    Anyone seen powder like this?

This powder was posted on a different site. The poster got it from breaking down some 7MM Mag reloads put together from an unknown source. The powder charge is 44.5grs under a 175gr bullet. This is way under the min loading for a 7mm Mag that I can find using a 175gr bullet. Notice the red cylinders interspersed in the powder almost like marker grains similar to Red Dot. It doesn't look degraded at all with no dust, dull cylinders and the poster didn't mention any off color. He has no intentions of using it, just would like to know if anyone has ever seen it. I came up a blank with modern powders. Maybe an older powder or a surplus of some type?

Some of the Norma and Nobel rifle powders have tinted taggants in them for identification.
I am not familiar with the type pictured, but it should make great high-nitrate fertilizer for your winter indoor tomatoes.

Hercules double based rifle powders re7, re11, and re21 had color coded grains similar to the above sample. I canít recall which powder had which color, though. It was over 40 years ago. Per above, toss it in the garden.

If you read my original post you will see that it's not mine. It was posted elsewhere for ID. The poster is going to throw it but is curious as to what it is. I don't use any Reloader and none of the pictures at ILRC show color in them.

id guess 4064 at that level too but I sure wouldn't use it if I wasn't sure. Use it for fertilizer

Smokeless powder makes a poor fertilizer. It's not water soluble. I just pour it on a piece of metal and ignite it.

I think "Texas by God" has it right. IIRC, I had reloaded some Re7 decades ago that had the small red cylinders in the powder. Probably back in the late 70's/early 80's.
Sounds like you have some fertilizer now.

Good advice to toss it and the poster already has, I think but I clearly stated in the opening post that he had no intention to use it.

thanks for all the posts. I'm going with older Reloader

The bacteria and fungi on the lawn break it down, fairly rapidly.

IMR 4831 is all I use in my 7mm Rem Mag. I don't remember any red in it but I can look.

I just checked my case of unopened Re21 cans and the powder has the identical red taggant grains in the mix. Regards, JH
