Tell me about the 9.3x57 Mauser round and rifle.

I am looking at a Husqvarna 1936 9.3x57. The original blue is 90%, the action has been drilled and tapped with weaver bases present. The bolt has been bent and ground/polished which looks great, has a side safety which appears to have an adjustable trigger attached. The rifling is strong, but lightly frosted. The stock is walnut, original, and the barrel has the Husqvarna roll mark on it. It has fixed front sight and rear, with a extra rear sight that flips up. $300 and the ride here, do you guys think it is a good deal. I assume it will use a .35 bullet. Talk me into it or out of it, I have no reloading stuff for it, but just seems like a neat old rifle, at a decent.

Buy it, Now. The rifle is good for short range game up to Moose. The action is great for another build if you don't like the caliber. $300 for a Husky action like that is a good deal imho. I'd buy it in a heartbeat

It uses a 9.3 bullet. As John mentioned it is a .366" barrel, so .357 bullets are highly questionable. For that price, in that condition, if the bore is good, buy it! If I remember right my dies are Hornaday, they are upstairs and I am down and sick (cold), and don't feel like climbing the stairs. I neck up 8x57 Mauser brass and go to town.

Get it get it you’ll like it I bet. That’s a great price for a nice Mauser sporter from Sweden in any caliber.

9.3mm bullets have always been tough since Bock designed the 9.3X62 cartridge as a inexpensive all-purpose round for German (Boer) farmers in Africa.

Great cartridge for anything other than dangerous game out to 200 yds.

2000-2100 feet per second with a 286 grain bullet, average chamber pressure about 40,000psi. Course it goes without saying slug the barrel before ordering a mold. I have a Husky 146 98 actioned rifle. I slugged the bbl and all barrels are not created equal. Throat is .370 and grooves are ..368. Barrel has a long tapered throat. Has the factory irons on the bbl. But has been drilled and tapped for scope bases and bolt altered for use with a scope. 8mm mauser cases can be used and what some shooters do is expand the cases up to the next caliber then resize to 9.3x57 leaving a larger than normal shoulder which crushes when you chamber them which gives a crush fit better controlling headspace upon firing. After that just size, load and shoot. Nitroexpress.com has plenty of load data, sizing info and just about anything you'd care to need about this cartridge. Have fun. Frank

If you don't want to mess with reforming brass, I think Privi Partisan sells reasonably priced brass, and Hornady has it for more $$.

Mark me down as another fan. Jacketed bullets are a slam dunk. For cast I had to thin the necks and my sizing die ended up at .372, I think. If I remember right mine has a tight throat and a wide bore. I do know I was surprised at whatever I had to size them to. Doesn't matter to me as it's one of my most accurate rifles with cast bullets. I have a Sauer & Sohn Mauser in 9 X 57 that has the first 6 or so inches of the bore washed pretty thin. Plan is to call JES today and see if he can re-do it to 9.3 X 57.

I have my brass fire formed for each rifle's chamber from neck sized 8mm mauser brass

One was re-chambered to 9.3x62. The seller co. didnt know when I bought it

Fun rifle to load for and fun to shoot

One rifle had a bad bedding stock, so I had stock duplicated on a hoenig machine from one of my other rilfe's stock out a nice piece of english walnut blank, and finished it
