    Drying time for 45/45/10

I am trying to help this young man who is trying to get into boolit casting as cheaply as possible, so we are tumble lubing the boolits. We made up a batch of 45/45/10, but how long does it take to dry in 65 degree Texas weather?

I have never used this before so it is new to me.

If I warm the boolits before tumbling, mine will dry in 30 minutes or so. I spread them on a piece of wax paper covered jelly roll pan, and put the pan in front of a small fan.

If I do a second coat, I'll leave it for several hours. It may not take that long, but I'm generally not in a hurry.

In the winter time I just assume that my 45/45/10 is going to take 8 to 10 hours to dry. We let the house get down to 60 degrees at night. That means that my basement (where I reload) is even cooler. If I need my boolits to dry faster I use a big box fan. I have also “finished” a batch that was still tacky with a hair dryer set on low. Mostly I just try to plan ahead.

Like Bookworm, I preheat the boolits that I am tumbling. They are dry as soon as the boolit cools, but it's better if they "cure" overnight before you start loading. Also, you want as thin of a coat as possible...so thin that you can't see it, but can feel it.

In the summer, I set them outside in the sun and they are dry in about 4 hours and wait a day to load them. I only use one coat on mine and have had zero problems.
