    Powder for High Velocity 9mm

Hi there fellow Boolit smiths! What powders are yall using to get the maximum possible velocity out of a 115 grain 9mm pill? I have a new Glock 43x that prints exceptionally well with my hot 115gn SD loads and would like to mimic these as close as possible with a CB for training.

I generally don't load lightweight boolits very HOT, but I have found PowerPistol works best for me, when I do load HOT.

Longshot for my high velocity loads.
Data is available on the Hodgdon data site. http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

I use Power Pistol as well, particularly with 124grs. Load and flashy though.

I second longshot. I keep it around for 12 ga turkey loads, as well as certain steel shot loads. I normally use unique for 9mm, but if I am shooting 9mm out of my carbine, longshot really heats up the load.

What sort of velocity for barrel length arebyou hoping to achieve? I use BE-86 and find it gets good velocities out of a 3.15" barrel. Also CFE-Pistol doe well. But out of a subcompact I am not expecting great velocities.

I'd be experimenting more to replicate POI rather than trying to match high velocity. With a cast bullet, it may be a very different velocity that hits POI of your carry load.

BlueDot can turn in some impressive velocities.

With 115 gr XTPs or GDs I use 7 gr Herco for +P load (W-W cases with WSP primers). Runs 1300 fps out of my CZ 75.

Just to warn you ...cast boolits in the 9mm Luger are STINKERS to get all the details worked out.
One thing that helped me was a 9mm cast boolit with a gas check installed sized no greater than .357 .
I used a 358-124 grain TC - GC boolit mould from NOE but 115 grain gas checked moulds are also available . The gas check helps with +1000 fps leading and also helps when seating the boolit .
Gas checked boolits are not popular but in my case I found it to be a help...along with a proper case neck expander plug , also available from NOE , when you order a mould ...get one with it .

As for powder Unique is my choice , next would be HP38 / 231 and Power Pistol for top velocities .

The 9mm/cast is the only round that ever made me curse at it...it's a stinker.

Try some Alliant sport pistol behind a powder coated boolit. I use 4.0 grains of it behind a lee 356-120 TC coated with smokes powder. Like Gary has said, 9mm boolits could be stinkers but the Hornady seating die with the alignment sleeve helps eliminate shaving or canting of the boolit which tends to be people’s issues when loading for 9mm.
